Government is an organized system that aids a society to accomplish common goals and provide benefits for the community as a whole. Government organizations help a nation to achieve economic growth, secure boarders, and help protect the safety and wellbeing of its citizens. “Government provides stability to society, as well as many crucial services such as free public education, police and fire services, and mail delivery” (32). Government provides authority and policies to help organize different aspects of the country. Authority to control and organize people in society with laws, distribute federal funds equally and distribution of natural resources. “Politics involves choosing which values government will support and which it will not. Put more simply, politics is the process of who gets what and how” (13). There are many different types of governments. The different type of governments has a lot to do with the freedoms individuals have and the distribution of federal income.
A democracy is a type of government in which the citizens govern themselves. They do this by electing officials they feel will best run the country. “The citizens do not govern directly. Instead, they elect representatives to make decisions and pass laws on behalf of all the people” (13). This type of government promotes individualism and freedom. Democracy is like capitalism in economic aspect. There are big gaps in wealth among society between those owning business and those working for others. Different types of governments will distribute the differences in those gaps. Socialism is a type of government that redistributes the wealth among individuals. Ways they distribute the wealth is through inexpensive healthcare, education, and child care.
