The Four Modernizations
1975, China. An idea conceived by Zhou Enlai was made into effect by Deng Xiaoping, the current Chairman of the CCP. His goals were only for the benefit of the country and never had he thought of doing wrong to his people. The idea that was put into effect was called “The Four Modernizations”. He tried to improve four points in the Chinese economy that would mend the mistakes created by past events such as the Cultural Revolution. But how exactly did he accomplish this, if he even did at all?
The Four Modernizations can be summarized into the following point: Agriculture, National Defense, Industry, and Science and Technology. He attempted to improve these point in order to stabilize and then improve Chinese economy overall. The main goal of the Four Modernizations was to make China a great economic power by the 21st century. Separately, it tried to improve each area of the previously mentioned.
Trade was opened to foreign countries such as Japan or the West in general. This included Technology, Agriculture and Industry. Now every bit of surplus left by the government could be used as an external income source, as well as improving relationships with other nations.
On the agricultural side, The Household Responsibility System was implemented. This gave an incentive to farmers to keep on producing as whatever they produced as surplus they could keep it and sell it for their own benefit. By accomplishing a goal of products set by the government where they planted in a field the government owned they just had to work the land and have an income.
In the Industry Department a huge investment was created to push Chinese efficiency in the city. Millions of yen were put into the industrial efficiency and its quality. The science and technology area was more focused on repairing the damage caused by the Cultural Revolution and to improve from where they were now. The National Defense was more focused on catching up to other nations in terms
