The Four Dimensions Of Emergent Leadership
With-in the Emergent Leadership Issues chapter of Course 15 there is a concept called the 4-Dimentions of Wellness. In those dimensions of wellness are 4 areas that should be worked on. Those areas are emotional, physical, spiritual and social wellness. I value this concept because I have dealt with many Airmen myself who were lacking in these areas and I have certainly struggle with a few areas of wellness. For me it is important to understand how to make each area stronger in order to be ready to performance the mission at a moment’s notice. It is also important for me as a leader to ensure my team is ready to go at a moment’s notice and having all areas of wellness squared away certainly helps with that. The physical dimension is super important. I value this one a lot because physical conditioning is what helps me perform my job effectively. I ensure that I eat the right foods and exercise on a daily basis. I would apply this concept by having an appropriate human performance (HP) regiment scheduled so my team can get proper exercise. I would also brief my team about healthy eating habits and ensuring their not drinking too much alcohol. These are all things that can make a strong body weak. Finding a way to have positive thinking on life, work and myself is part fo the emotional dimension of wellness. All this boils down to is a mindset. I have the choice to be negative or positive in any situation. I also understand that people have bad days and life challenges come up. Having these dimensions built will help the team with diversity by having those relationships built with each other. It helps with change management by having the structure in place to push through the hard times. The mission will always change and always be there so building upon these four pillars is essential to mission
