The fountainhead by Ayn Rand
What do you believe Ayn Rand was saying about society and its structure when she had Roark expelled from Stanton institute of technology? Ayn Rand was saying that society may not believe or care with someone else’s prospective and point of view. There will always be disagreement in the world. The best to do is move on and not care with what others say or think. We should always do what makes us smile. Roark got expelled from Stanton institute of technology for his lack of inspiration. it didn’t really affected him because he want it to get out anyways. Even though he had a year left of school, he had enough on his mind. “if I find no joy in it, then I’m only condemning myself to sixty years of torture. And I can find the joy only if I do my work in the best way possible to me” pg24. He wants to make himself proud with the type of work he has to show. Why do you believe Ayn Rand has an opposing character, Peter Keating, to offset her main character Howard? What do the two different personality say about society, mankind, leaders, and follower? Or, equal character, such as, henry Cameron? I believe Ayn rand has an opposing character, peter Keating, to set off her main character Howard because Howard doesn’t care about the life Keating is leaving therefore I believe she adds Keating to show Howard the different and show how successful Keating is. “He was peter Keating, star student of Stanton, president of the student body, captain of the track team, member of the most important fraternity, voted the most popular man on the campus”. Pg. 29. Howard and Keating are two different character but Keating always tries to show how much better he is from Howard, but Howard doesn’t seem to be imitated by Keating actions. Howard is more likely to be compare with Henry Cameron. Why is Roark’s character designed to go against society and all that society represents? What is Ayn rand trying...
