    Equipment Calibration is defined as the act of adjusting and evaluating the precision and accuracy of measured equipment. It allows the user to get an accurate and precise reading of measurements to its actual true value. However, in order for the experiment to be effective is must consist of validity, reliability, and objectivity. Validity is defined as the ability of a test to measure what it claims to measure. Reliability is the consistency of test results and objectivity is defined as a test administered by different investigators. The calibration of speed, elevation on a treadmill, and cycle ergometer is important because it ensures the accuracy of measurements made by various measuring devices. It’s also important because it allows for minimal errors and mistakes that could, if not, contribute wrong readings and conclusions. In testing for the calibration of speed, the values in trial 1, 2 and 3 were very similar to the adjusted level of speed on the treadmill. The speed level in trial 1 was 1.0 mph, which yielded a measured value of 1.06 mi/hr. Trial 2 was 3.0 mph, which yielded 3.2 mi/hr and tiral 3 was 4.0 mph, which yielded 4.3 mi/hr. Although the measured values yielded a few points off, the test was still valid because the results were similar with the actual treadmill speed. However, the test was not reliable because the values were not consistent. In calibration of elevation, our measured values yielded exactly 20%, which is valid with the published value of 20% or 12%. The per cent grade was measured at rise over run multiplied by 100: rise value was 9.75 inches and run value was 48 inches, giving a value of 20%. The calibration of elevation was a valid test because it claimed to have measured at exactly 20%; however it was not reliable because multiple trials were not tested. In calibrating the cycle ergometer, we had some difficulties adjusting the rope that was attached to the bike and ended using tape to attach the rope to the bike. The…
