The First Experience for a Wisdom Tooth Extraction
The First Experience for a Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Just a year ago, I got my wisdom tooth pulled for the first time. My wisdom tooth had started to ache on last New Year ‘s day. Normally, I celebrate New Year’s day with special food, but I was no time for that because of an excruciating pain. Unfortunately, my husband and I didn’t know a good doctor in this city, and we couldn’t contact friend who knows well regional information because it was a big holiday! At the long time, I found a dentist who has a good report; however, I had to wait for meeting him for three days until his office open.
Last January 3rd, I went to the dentist office at 7a.m., outside was still dark and cold. I had to look over a lot of documents, and signed it. They were written with many difficult words for me. Of course, my English skill was much worse than now, I had trouble for communication with the dentist. So, I told him about my pain almost gesture.
Few days later, I got my wisdom tooth pulled for the first time. My operation went well; the dentist and his staff did smooth work. After that, I couldn’t eat anything for three days, and also I couldn’t speak for a week because of pain. At the time, I had just started my English classes. I had become petrified to speak English, but I thought “This is my training to become tough”. Since then it, I have taken care of my teeth more carefully.

On September 16, 2011, I attended a training session/lunch and learn for Valley Regional Imaging. They came to me job to show the new computer technology that we will soon have access to from our clinic. Instead of them faxing us results, we would be able to go on the computer and see our own results. The meeting was held in one of our board rooms. The room was dimly lit with a huge projection screen in the middle. The table was huge with big comfy leather chairs surrounding in. The board room was away from normal patient activity so it was very quiet. The room was actually very cold so I had to leave and get my jacket.…

I was being rolled down to the x-ray room after my 13 hour long hip surgery. Every bounce and movement of the cart sent searing pain through my body. It was all i could do to not cry and yell but as we rolled and stopped the pain stopped. We were in a room filled with equipment and two people deep in conversation. Janet ,the first nurse, was talking. “Last saturday i got my nails done and they're super cute. And then today i broke my nail helping a patient. Ugh this job sucks”. “I know right” replied the second nurse “ I literally hate it here”. At this point I was being rolled onto my side so that the nurse could put an x-ray plate down under me and the conversation wasn’t filling me with confidence. I wanted to yell at them to stop talking.…

My first patient was Jaeleen. As a dental assistant, I told her to check in. Afterwards, I called her into a room and settled her down in place. A few minutes after, I started to do some duties. I asked her questions and checked her teeth. The first thing I did was asked when was her last time she went to the dentist. Her last time was on October 12, 2012. Then I asked if she had fillings. Jaeleen didn’t have fillings, but she had a missing tooth. Her front tooth! Then I asked if she was suffering any pain. She said, “No. My teeth feels great!” Next, I asked how often and how long does she normally brush her teeth. She replied, “I brush my teeth everyday. I brush them after I wake up and before I go to sleep. I brush my teeth for a minute and a half.” The last questions I asked were if…

I knew that if i could stay awake it would be a lot easier on me but it wasn’t an easy thing to do. Around 3 hours of running, playing and the excessive blood loss i was taking a turn for the worse but we had soon reached the ER and she rushed me and my brother in and had us sit down. While she filled out a sheet and gave it back to the nice lady. In that time i was just sitting down finally stopped crying but my eyes were still watery and red. I looked around and saw some people who looked sick and people who looked worried and the others were patiently waiting for something while looking at magazines or on their phones. I remember staring...a lot, and i felt some stares back at me. Some guy had came into the room like 10 minutes later calling out my name so mom grabbed her things and followed the man along with my brother and myself. This team of doctors had me strapped down to a table and mentioned stitches and i started crying like a baby because my dad had told jokes about getting stitches before and made it sound really painful. They decided it wasn’t the best thought because the wound was too big for stitches. I felt more relieved than i did pain. They tightened the straps and began the procedure. Mom stayed by my whole side during the operation and held my hand they took 3 extremely large staples and drove one by one into my head and 4 or the rest had to hold me down from moving too much. They got a good grip on me and started pushing the first staple into my head and it hurt a lot because the pain pills wore off and it felt so painful. Try taking a nail to your head and push. When the operation ended i got a cars note book along with some crayons for…

I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…

If we were to go back in time 300 years to a hospital, someone in the first room is giving birth, in the second room someone is getting treatment for stomach pain, and in the third room someone is screaming their lungs out because they are experiencing the dreadful sensation of something we find painless today which is surgery. Why is surgery painless now but extremely horrendous 300 years ago? In 1846 a dentist named William T.G Morton invented a drug that is called Anesthesia. In these very long boring two to three minutes I will tell you how anesthesia works, what is in it, and how it affected the doctors, patients, and the medical community for the people of 1846.…
