The Fiery Trial Summary

The Fiery Trial is a non-fiction book that takes place during the American Civil War. Eric Foner published this on October 4, 2010. This story is a biography; the story has a prologue talking about Lincoln’s early childhood. It is talking about Lincoln's political life after moving away from Kentucky and then lived in Illinois, and talking about his life as the 16th president of the United States. His role during the civil war and him trying to abolish slavery. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, in Hodgenville, Kentucky. During his childhood, he grew up in a log cabin. Lincoln's parents were Nancy Hanks and Thomas Lincoln. He got the name Abraham from his Grandfather. Lincoln also had an older sister named Sarah and a younger brother named Thomas who died as a baby. At age seven Lincoln turned family moved to southern Indiana. Even though Lincoln grew up in the south he hated how they were being treated. Lincoln believed that everyone deserves to be treated equally no matter how different they are. On chapter 1,page 22 Lincoln Said “I am naturally anti-slavery. If slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong. I cannot remember when I did not so think and feel.” At first, Lincoln was a Whig he wasn't a southern whig clearly but it was a northern whig but the political party started to change and change over the years.
