THE EVELOUTION OF THE DEISEL
The diesel engine was designed by Rudalf Diesel. His first engine exploded in his face between the years of 1894 and 1897. He studied at Manich Polytechinic. After he finished school he went to work as a refrigerator engineer. In 1894 Rudalf Diesel put in for a Patten for the idea of diesel engine. In 1897 he made the first working diesel engine. He was almost killed by the early diesel engine when it exploded.
In 1898 he was grated his patent # 608,845 for his diesel engine design.
The first diesel engines were too big to be used in cars and trucks. They were for stationary use. Diesel’s original idea was to run the diesel off biofuel to make it more practical for the common person to use. In the 1920’s the new fuel injection pump was invented witch made the engine small enough for it to be made mobile. The first auto company to come out with a diesel engine in an automobile was Mercedes Benz, It was the 260D. The Busch- Zalger Brothers Diesel Engine Company was the first to build the first engine in 1898. There wasn’t much done with the development done to it until WWI. The diesel engine was the first to prove that the fuel could be ignited without a spark. The fuel was ignited by compression. The first successful operation of the diesel engine was in 1897. Clessie L. Cummins stated Cummins engine co. in 1919 by selling small diesel engines to Sears, Roebuck & Co. these engines proved defective and plagued with problems. It wasn’t until the 1930’s that the Cummins Engine Co. produced it’s first successful diesel engine, and 1937 marked the first profit of Cummins Engine Co. Despite a small taste of success, Cummins still faced many hardships.
