The Epic Of Beowulf As A Tragic Hero

Beowulf throughout the text showed many great characteristic that belittled everyone else’s. Beowulf the bravest warrior of all time, slayer of all things evil, the strongest of all man ever put on God’s earth. Beowulf the man who conquered giants, swam in waters infested with sea monster and killed them, the killer of Grendal and his mother, future King of the Geats, dragon slayer. Beowulf more courageous than any other man or women, who held honor to the highest esteem. Beowulf was ,superior, the man above all men. Beowulf showed all these great traits constantly through action and words. Beowulf words alway supporting his action. Beowulf showing the unmeasurable amount of courage he carried when he said, “ with my hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster.” Beowulf showing his courage never stuck by fear and is confident he needs nothing
Beowulf’s strength so great that when Grendal and him battled, Grendal felt weaker than ever before feeling the greatest strength know to man shown by the quote, “Grendal captive caught in the arms of him who of all men on earth was the strongest.” Grendal now knowing of such strength knows he must flee if he wants to survive. Beowulf physical attribute so great they could outshine even the darkest strength of Grendal.
However, Beowulf was not just a brute who had all the physical elements of a hero. Beowulf has a strong heart for even in old age Beowulf would fight to protect his people and gain this great fame that without would have made him feel his life was purposeless. He states, “I’ve never known fear as a youth, I fought in endless battles. I am old now, but will fight again, seek fame still. Beowulf even in his lowest physical state has a heart that no one else has the heart to always fight.
