The DUI Experience

The DUI experience speaker really had an impact on me. I have had many fellow class mates in high school die in alcohol-related car crashes. I honestly had no clue that the average age a person consume alcohol is fourteen years old. When I was fourteen I never even thought of drinking. The average age to start abusing drugs is sixteen years old; I personally know that is about correct. I grew up in a town where it is very common to be on drugs at a very young age. So I grew up around all the drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products. I am a smoker; I am not going to lie. I started smoking profusely when I was a teenager. The average age to start using tobacco products is ten or eleven years old. When I was ten or eleven I was not worried about cigarettes or chew! I most identified with the alcohol topic at the DUI experience because alcohol has had a very big impact on my life. My father is a police officer so I know what to do and not do when it comes to alcohol. I graduated out of a very large class in high school unfortunately two seniors could not join because of deaths by alcohol. I least identified the drug topic during the presentation because I am not too familiar with any drugs. I have friends that are in jail because of drug use and I would never want bring that upon me of my family. I learned at the DUI experience presentation that a DUI can cost up to $10,000. The fine for a DUI is roughly about $2,000. A good lawyer will cost you at least $5,000. The treatment fees, if you have to have them, will cost about $500-$2500. The pound will charge you $200 to tow your car. The DUI topic relates to college students today by college students drinking and then getting in their car and getting on the road. They do think that they are a threat on the road. I have heard plenty of people say, “Yeah, I’m good to drive” and then get in a car accident because they are too drunk to drive.
