Summary of Findings
College students are early adopters and heavy users of the Internet College students are heavy users of the Internet compared to the general population. Use of the Internet is a part of college students’ daily routine, in part because they have grown up with computers. It is integrated into their daily communication habits and has become a technology as ordinary as the telephone or television. ! One-fifth (20%) of today’s college students began using computers between the ages of 5 and 8. By the time they were 16 to 18 years old all of today’s current college students had begun using computers – and the Internet was a commonplace in the world in which they lived. ! Eighty-six percent of college students have gone online, compared with 59% of the general population. ! College students are frequently looking for email, with 72% checking email at least once a day. ! About half (49%) first began using the Internet in college; half (47%) first began using it at home before they arrived at college. ! The great majority (85%) of college students own their own computer, and twothirds (66%) use at least two email addresses. ! Seventy-eight percent of college Internet users say that at one time or another they have gone online just to browse for fun, compared to 64% of all Internet users. !     Smith begins by establishing the connection today’s students have to the internet and its resources. “Pencils and paper,” he says, are being moved out of the way for “keyboards, webcams, and online drop boxes (Smith 3).” Smith attacks his argument using examples that seem to come from his experience with MyRED and EBSCO search engine, he claims that now more than ever students are completely dependent upon online resources (6). He goes on to mention the convenience of such online supplements, such as being able to register at any time online with MyRED, the ability to check grades or assignments from anywhere on Blackboard, or being able to access a greater wealth of information through search engines like EBSCO(6). As soon as Smith has established the reliance on technology that students have today, he shifts gears. Smith before he goes anywhere with his information, his approach to explaining the amount of weight put on students through the internet shifts to explaining how today’s students are irresponsible and can’t handle the freedom of online…

    Dodd, a rifleman in the Ninety-Fifth Foot known as the Rifle Brigade, is cut off from the rest of the British army as the French advance on the country of Portuguese. This is back in the time when men fought with muskets and horses, where there are no phones or cars and where honor and faith is what mattered to any soldier in the battlefield. As Dodd has no choice but to sneak around the country trying to make his way back to his beloved unit to continue the fight he runs into many different people that help alter the path that he takes throughout the book. He will learn that sometimes a common enemy is all that someone needs to work with another person no matter the language barrier. As he journeys to rejoin his unit in the Lines he makes new friends and allies that help him discover stuff about him that he never thought he had or would use. His experience as a soldier for so many years allow him to lead people that want nothing more than their normal lives back. At one point he makes friends with a Portuguese boy that admires Dodd and his skills. He and Dodd help lead a village into the hillside near the village where the young boy lives so that the French don’t kill all of the people there. Then helps lead guerilla warfare against the unfortunate French Battalion that takes home in the village. The villagers speak a different language then Dodd but that does little to affect Dodd’s choice to help the villagers fight back against the French. Coming from a unit of great respect the Ninety-Fifth was one of the best known units in the British army at this time in history, and Dodd is a harden veteran of many battles so he knew what to do and how to engage the enemy when they were outnumbered and outgunned but still come out victorious. And a long campaign begin in those hills as Dodd lead by example the villagers come…
