Instead of Trevor just wants to destroy the house for delinquency purposes, Trevor does have a deeper reason behind his actions. His emotions seem to get out of control as Mr. Thomas ends up arriving home early and the rest of the Gang is ready to bail as the fear of getting caught presents itself. “Trevor yells that it is not fair.” This statement is very important as it now reflects and shows the drive and passion for destroying Old Myserys house. Blacke a fellow gang member agrees to stay and complete the tasks at hand. I thought that Trevor was very selfish for his acts. It was not right to destroy someone’s home due to envy. Later in the story he shows his compassion as he locked the Mr. Thomas in the shed and gave him some food and a blanket so that he didn’t starve or get cold during the night while they completed the…

A Great Novel and a Good read can be completely different or even the same depending on the person. People are different, and therefore will have their own opinions, meaning people will consider one book in many different ways. A book such as ‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas’ by Frank Boyne, is a prime example of a book that can both be considered a great novel or a good read. What makes a good novel or a good read you ask, well that is down to the reader? Great novels push the bounds of thought and develop ideas that the reader can discuss. The people who enjoy books like these are people who take pleasure in being stretched philosophically and culturally. Although not everyone a difficult read, they can be interesting and enjoyable for some. Good books can be considered for the less intellectual mind but in reality they are just as knowledgeable as any other book. In this piece we will be discussing what makes a Great Novel rather than a Good Read. We will explore different parts of a book such as the characterization or the time and place setting.…

In this paper I am going to compare and contrast a literary text (Education for Leisure by Carol Ann Duffy) and a non literary text (Newspaper article from “The Independent” by Nigel Morris) focussing on the language features used, the structural and presentational devices, the use of correct punctuations, analyse the structure of the non literary text for bias and the techniques used to convey meaning and ideas by both authors. The objective of literary texts is to teach the readers a life lesson with the development and growth of the main character as the plot unfolds. These types of texts have a meaning behind the writing instead of just being written for fun. Literary texts mainly focus on problems or weaknesses of the society that are exposed for the world to read and some of them offered ways to help fix the issue. Literary texts are mainly used in novels, fictions, short stories, poetry, and drama. However, non literary texts are for the everyday reader because they are easier to read and fairly simple and have nothing in it that will confuse the story. It mostly deals with factual information. There could be lesson in the text that is simple and easy to figure out. Non literary texts are mainly used in newspaper or magazine articles, brochures, journals, travel writing and personal diaries.…
