The denotative definition defines “cheating (v.): 1. An instance of rule-breaking (Collins English Dictionary 2014)”. From a student's point of view cheaters and cheating is not a dying breed, but that does not make cheating an act of righteousness. The challenge of being a student in the 21st century is synonymous to a cry for help. Aptly put this cry is synonymous to the pressure that, I, as a student feel 5 days a week, approximately 12- 15 hours a day, and approximately 8 months out of the year. For instance, while in the lab we must come up with hypotheses in order to conduct an experiment that reflects our hypothesis. In doing so, we gather information on the hypothetical topic by finding primary sources [published papers] that reflect the outcome of what we hope to find. I say all this to say that when I am tasked with finding a primary source I make sure I cite correctly, I paraphrase bits and pieces that do not reflect my idea, but rather help me branch off and think differently. When it comes to the integrity of my work I do try to take the utmost seriousness when doing so. Another instance in which I have displayed unwatered integrity was when I was younger during the days of junior high. When I was in band my band director expected us to practice and fill out a time sheet. While not a lot, just a few would lie and fill in a slot with more time than they had actually practiced with. Integrity is usually the trait where people question “what do you do when people aren't watching”? A third instance in which others relied on my integrity was the case in which I was out of town in New Orleans, Louisiana with my family, and as I walked on the street I carried leftover food from a restaurant. While walking I noticed a homeless person who was hungry and asking people for change. In that moment I felt the sincerity, and was saddened by the fact that people would pass, and ignore the women in the street. Once it was my turn to pass she asked if I had anything and instead of saying no or ignoring I gave her what I had, which was my food from the restaurant.
