The Democratic Presidential Candidate: Hillary Clinton
The Democratic presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, is known for her experience in the field. Clinton has been First Lady of Arkansas, First Lady of the United States, Secretary of State, and Senator for New York, and maybe our First Female President. Although she has experience, many of her voters doubt her honesty. Clillizza writes that “much of her negatives are already baked in to voters’ decisions about her. As in, sure they may have doubts about trusting Clinton, but they’ve already factored that into their decision and decided that her experience matters more to them” (Cillizza,2016). Clinton’s misleading statements has her voters speculating her honesty. In the latest polls of New York Times, 67 percent of registered voters have questioned her trustiness (Barbaro 2016). Clinton ran for the 2008 presidential campaign saying she was against abortion and now in her 2016 presidential campaign she is for abortion. …show more content…
The Agenda Setting Theory tells the audience what to think about. As media covers the debates, the audience interprets the news stories in correlation to what the media provides. Agenda Setting sets a focus, and shapes certain issues, like Hillary Clinton’s campaign, to influence the way the public views the issue. In her political campaign, Clinton has the media exposing strong stories over her commitment and her honesty towards the public.     Although she has been involved with many scandals such as Benghazi, she clearly has more political experience than Trump. Dr. Gail Saltz, a psychoanalyst says that Clinton appeals to the American audience because she is calculative, diplomatic, formal and aware (Chozick, 2016). Clinton’s calculative nature can be seen on her speeches, which are rehearsed and spoken with conviction as she uses more complex language.
