These dangers are understood and assumed by all participants, and though the game is more safe than it has ever been, there are still risks that are ever present during a football game. When I played football I understood those risks, and the danger of the game is one of the reasons why I waited until 8th grade to start playing. “Pro football is like nuclear warfare. There are no winners, only survivors.” -Frank Gifford. Football is a full contact sport, so it is not supposed to be safe, and no one ever expected it to be safe. The NFL has started to attempt to make professional football as safe as they possibly can without ruining the game. The majority of the rules the NFL has in place are necessary when it comes to how the game is played and maintaining the safest environment on the football field for the players, however some of the other rules being added to the rulebook are arguably unnecessary and truthfully ridiculous. Concussions, knee sprains, stress fractures happen often and are now considered common injuries. Parents do not get overly worried, like they should, due to the severity of these injuries that happen to their children. From my standpoint, concussions are a huge part of football and they do cause major damage to your brain in the grand scheme of life. The bigger the conflict with football players isn’t getting injured or having major injuries impact on us for life after football such as concussions. Football players die twice in life, when they’re career is done, and when they’re done. People like myself who have been playing since they were 8 or 9 years-old form themselves to become a better football player, and it just so happens that in that process, we became a better man outside of football. We feel like when we decide to stop playing, or when we have to stop playing, we’re missing a piece of us. As stated earlier in my essay, parents are now keeping their sons away from football or keeping them from playing until high school. Of course, no one can really argue that this isn’t a bad idea. I, however, disagree because football formed me to who I am today. If I am ever blessed with a son in the future, I will hope he takes an interest in football so he can have the same experience as I did; it helped me create lifelong friends and invaluable learning opportunities. It made me not normal, I am a beast. It made me not give up when times are too hard for normal human beings. It made me have a new perspective on life. It made life easier. No matter how many injuries have occurred to me, and no matter how much pain I am in from football, I am forever grateful for everything football has brought to…

Knowing football players myself I know athletes feel that playing football grows their character, meaning if they get hurt it makes them stronger as a person. Also with athletes they have self-discipline and a higher self-esteem as athletes have a roles in their sports, as everyone has their own job in the sport. But also there is cons of being an athlete such as head trauma. As in “Big Hits Broken Dreams”, we go through a story with Kwan Waller suffering from multiple head trauma, as they didn’t have a athletic trainer on…
