The Current Moral Issue

Nowadays, one of the current moral issues that Malaysia facing is growing of abandoned babies. Sixty-five infants have been found in last year, and most of the infant were dead by the time they were discovered. They were found in streets, river, jungle, rubbish bins, and even on doorsteps. The latest dead infant was found floating in Sungai Kroh 42/2 milestone, Jalan Ipoh. The discovery was made about 4pm by patrol policemen from the Jinjang station while passing through the area before removing the decomposing body from the river (Ashab 2010). Besides, Bukit Aman Police Department statistics show cases of abandoned babies increased to 83 in 2006 compared to just 65 cases in 2000. The state of Selangor reported the highest number of 22 cases in 2000 and this increased to 24 cases in 2006 (Adul Ghani 2010). It may causes the total number of growing will exceed the average of 100 per year if authorities did not take any action. The moral theory that can be applied in abandoned babies is virtue ethics. Heartless parents, teenage pregnancy or unmarried parents make the decision of abandoned their child just because wan respect from other people and specific quality of various such as ashamed, guilt and afraid the strange vision of people. For example, some family would not allow their children pregnancy before married and they will angry or mad if they knew it. Thus, the fear of their secrets being discovered by their families make them resort to the unthinkable, they just abandoned the newborn (Abdul Ghani 2010). Besides, another moral theory that can be applied in this unwelcome situation is deontology theory. People should adhere to their obligations and duties when analyzing an ethical dilemma. People should not abandon their infants because it is killing. In contrary, they have responsibilities to bring up their child no matter they are unmarried or teenage pregnancy.
