The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Analysis
Despite Christopher's difficulties and disabilities, it is the parent's actions we do not understand. To what extent do you agree?

In Richard Haddon's novel, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, the main character and narrator, Christopher Boone, suffered from aspergers syndrome which is a form of Autism. This caused many of his actions to seem impractical and we do not understand why he acts this way, but it also caused him to act in the most basic and simple of human ways. Christopher's parents on the other hand did not suffer from autism, or any other kind of disability yet we still do not understand their actions.

Many of Christopher's actions we observe throughout the novel are difficult to explain and understand.

    Some of these odd behaviours are done to calm himself. When Christopher explains why he would be a good astronaut, he says “I really like small spaces, so long as there is no one else in them with me. Sometimes when I want to be on my own I get into the airing cupboard outside the bathroom . . . and sit there and think for hours and it makes me feel very calm” (Haddon 41). This exemplifies Christopher’s use of very odd behaviours to calm himself. Christopher is the only character in the novel capable of explaining how he makes use of this odd behaviour. In addition, Christopher demonstrates an odd behaviour when he makes certain decisions. When Christopher explains why people make certain decisions, he says “But you don't know if you are going to like something because you haven't tasted it yet, so you have favourite foods and you choose these, and you have foods you don’t like and you don't choose these, and then its simple” (Haddon 85). This quote expresses Christopher’s dislike of trying new things. Even though this statement only applies to him, it proves that people with Aspergers only do things that they know they like from previous experiences.
