Third person is proven to be more popular than first, yet Mark Haddon’s use of first person is key to this compelling novel. The book “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time” is narrated by the main character, Christopher. If this story been written in third person it would’ve been harder to understand Christopher’s emotions, his actions, as well as the symptoms of Asperger Syndrome. First, Christopher’s perspective allows readers to understand his emotions, rather than constantly inferring his reasoning. Christopher got nervous due to his run in with the police as well as the fact that he was talking to a stranger, “So Christopher walked away” (Haddon, 41).
