The night before the actual action begins, Reverend Parris had discovered his daughter Betty, his niece Abigail Williams, his slave Tituba and some other girls in the woods, where they were performing an occult blood ritual and casting spells. Rough Draft The Crucible was written by Arthur Miller, it was published January 22nd 1953. The play took place during 1692 to 1693 in Salem Massachusetts. For the most part of this play it was all based on lies, you had people accusing others to keep themselves out of trouble and everyone would believe them. Other than John Proctor who knew what was happening but he couldn't convince the others to believe him. So whoever Abigail or one of the girls would accuse they would either confess something that wasn't true or they would be hung. The entire town of Salem was blinded by the truth and believed anything Abigail and the other girls would say. All the girls acted as if the devil was around during court to get the people they claim contacting the devil to be hung.…

Compare and Contrast Essay The Crucible is a 1952 play by the American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatization of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Province of Massachusetts Bay during 1692 and 1693. Miller wrote the play as a narrative to McCarthyism, when the US government blacklisted accused communists. The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings before county court trials to prosecute people accused of witchcraft in the counties of Essex, Suffolk, and Middlesex in colonial Massachusetts, between February 1692 and May 1693. Even though The Crucible is based on the Salem witch trials, they have differences such as, the relationship between John Proctor and Abigail Williams, and the towns’ relationship with the Putnam’s.…

We soon learn that the entire town is buzzing with rumors that Betty is sick because of witchcraft. Rev. Parris had seen both Betty and his niece Abigail dancing in the forest with his slave, Tituba, the night before. That evening in the forest, he also saw a cauldron and a frog leaping into it. When first questioned, Abigail denies that she or Betty have been involved in witchcraft, but she admits that they were dancing in the forest with Tituba. Abigail lives in the Parris household because her own parents are dead. She used to live at the home of John and Elizabeth Proctor, but they asked her to leave for some mysterious reason.…

In Arthur Miller's, The Crucible, not much was received, except for the revenge of a heart broken girl. I didn't find this play intriguing like most plays I have read before. If you want to watch a girl throw a tantrum over a guy and get rid of her rivals, then I recommend watching Mean Girls or befriend a high school queen bee, instead of reading The Crucible. Not much is offered to you other than blame and the act of revenge, which was lacked as well. In fact, the witch hysteria played a minor role and very little action were taking place.…

Human society fears what they do not understand. When we observe something as unfamiliar we perceive it as a threat. This is what occurred in Salem, as dozens of people were hanged after being convicted of witchcraft. During Miller's era Americans were persecuted by their own countrymen for believing in Communism. America feared Communism would take over the world just as the inhabitants of Salem thought evil spirits would overwhelm their mind, souls and eventually Salem itself.…
