Many times people refuse to believe in evolution because it is contrary to their religious beliefs. Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History states, “Either science sets the standard for truth to which religion must adhere or be dismissed, or religion sets the standard to which science must conform“(“Science, Religion…”). Various surveys have shown that forty percent of American’s believe that God created the world. In contrast, twelve percent believe in the theory of evolution. The evolution theory provides a very different history of life than the Old Testament of the Bible. The Old Testament insists that God created the world, including all forms of life. This idea is called Creationism. Creationism holds the idea that all living matter was created by God. Darwin argued this in his book, “The Descent of Man.” In his book, Darwin argues that human and apes are closely related and have descended from common ancestors. The theory of evolution says that humans evolved into their present form rather than by a divine plan from a creator. Those who believe in creationism argue that the earth’s age is only thousands of years old, instead of billions of years as scientists often …show more content…
Microevolution is evolution on a small scale. Macroevolution is evolution on a large scale. Microevolution occurs by four main processes, “natural selection, mutation, gene flow, and genetic drift” (“Evolution…”).Microevolution is often studied in short time periods and features a single population. Macroevolution involves different populations and multiple gene pools. The four main processes by which Macroevolution occurs is – “mutation, genetic drift, migration, and natural selection”(“Evolution…”). Macroevolution is hard to see because there is no first hand evidence available. Scientists must study macroevolution by looking at fossils, geology and
