In the article “The Myth of Inferiority”, the author, Allan Culpepper, talks about people’s point of views about community college students. The semester started off the same as most. I go into it telling myself that I will stay caught up this time. I won’t allow myself to do assignments at the last minute. As usual these promises are quickly broken. I work eight to twelve hours a day and six days a week most weeks, so often when I get home, the last thing I want to do is homework. This means putting everything for most of my classes off till Sunday. A habit I have sadly been in for the better part of my time at Gateway.…

As I disappointingly see my grades on canvas I tell myself that once I get home from school I will finish my homework and papers almost due before work today. I have four quizzes and two excel worksheets to work complete. I have three hours and a half to finish these before midnight. As I’m done with my first quiz I decided to take a little break so I take a glimpse at my phone and decide to watch just an episode of “Vampire Diaries” and next time I know its 5 o’clock and I’ve watched four episodes of the show. I just wasted all the time I had to finish my homework and now I have to finish it after work which I get out at 9:30 pm. There was no way I would finish on time with good scores.…

During my undergraduate education, I was able to work in the Student Support Services center as a Peer Educator. As a Peer Educator, I learned there is no standard way to support students. Students come from different cultures, backgrounds, and have different needs in-order to be successful academically and personally. This gave me the opportunity to gain skills in developing workshops and social hours to empower students in their academics, but most important give them knowledge in learning how to utilize the resources available to them.…

When working on homework, I do not procrastinate that much; most of the time I try to get as much done in study hall as possible. When I get home, I change into comfortable clothes and get a quick snack in order to complete my homework with minimal distractions. I give my phone to my mom so I do not text anyone, unless it applies to homework, and watch television shows; however, I do sometimes listen to music while doing my homework. I am involved in multiple activities, so I always move ahead if possible. I also plan ahead as much as I can and use my agenda for planning and scheduling different events, activities, and homework; in my agenda, I color coordinate each class and highlight the assignments once I finish them. I also like to…
