As the population of whitetail deer continues to rise in Kentucky, chances of taking one increase as well. In “Kentucky Deer Season 2013: Hunting Forecast” Darren Warner of OutdoorLife.com states that “The current statewide population estimate for Kentucky's deer herd is about 900,000 animals.” Due to the abundancy of deer, during the apocalypse they will be a great source of food for you and your group. However, after the kill, most hunters do not know what to do next, and those who do often do not take the most ethical route to processing a deer. Compocalypse students need to know how to efficiently process a deer because venison will provide large, protein packed meal during the apocalypse and can also provide skin to make clothing out of,…
In "Is Hunting Ethical?" Ann Causey examines the growing debate on the morality of hunting. She started off with an example of the controversy by using herself as the model. While telling the story of the tragic loss of Sandy the fawn, she reveals to us the irony of her eating venison that very night. This gives us early signs that Ann is not on either side and that she is feeling conflicted over the subject like many people in the present day do.…
Hunting is a popular entertainment in the United States and particularly in the state of Texas. Roughly four percent of Americans are hunters, and their family members are generally supporters of hunting. In Texas, nearly eight percent of people, along with some of their family members, participate in and admire hunting. Many states issue licenses for hunting and allocate certain forest areas for hunters. During the hunting seasons, hunters, some with their interested family members as well, flock into designated areas, shoot and kill such animals as deer and birds, and enjoy the practice. From their viewpoint, hunting is a source of…
It’s November, so that means its deer season. Every year deer season starts on the second weekend of November and last for ten days. I get really excited around August because during this time my family and I start exploring the woods looking for signs of deer. We look for signs like scrapes on trees, footprints, and tall grass that looks like it has been laid on and flattened. We set salt blocks out around our tree stands and set our cameras out hoping to catch a picture of a big buck. After we finish all the preparing we wait until the first week of November. During the first week of November we go back to our stands, check the salt blocks, set new blocks out, and grab our cameras to take back home. Once we get home we look at the pictures…

It is a freezing twenty-two degrees outside. Even though it is still too dark to see, as you look over the hills, you see a breathtaking sunrise that will soon creep through the heavy fog. Every breath that you take is like smoke coming out of a dragon's nostrils. As you are waiting patiently, still, and quietly, you finally see your kill, the white-tail deer. Without a doubt, the white-tail deer should be hunted.…
Deer hunting is one of the most popular types of hunting. The deer hunting season for 2015 is Sept. 12 through Jan. 3 with different weapon seasons mixed in. Baiting deer is fairly easy, deer like sugar, salt, apple, and corn licks, corn apples molasses, pumpkin, and pretty much any fruit/vegetable . Deer hunters normally use bows with broad heads, a 243 through 300 rifle or shotgun with deer slugs or copper sabbots. People tend to use tree stands or sometimes ground blinds. Deer hunting is very popular with many people and relaxing.…
I am against the big game trophy hunting for many reasons supported by quotes from articles about the story, TMDG. Something so small and harmless may be thought as just a hobby, but in the end, it is a hobby that affects way more. Animals and humans can both receive harm when people hunt; especially when it involves many deaths and drastic changes in someone's life. Throughout the articles I read, I found that big game trophy hunting is quite dangerous; adding to my original thought about being against it.…
One month before opening day of deer season I had to get my guns ready. I had to clean and remove the little rust that was on them. I had to sight them in, I also have to get my bow ready for bow season. I’m going to sight my guns in today. And trapping starts tomorrow so I half to get my traps ready.…
The whitetail deer are one of the most populated animals in the world. All over the world, many people use them for meat and fur. Deer are very intelligent and wild animals that wander everywhere in the world and we still don't know everything about them. People still wonder today where deer originate from, why they are so fast, and how did deer became so populated.…
For me, there is nothing better than getting up for the first day of bow season. I can barely sleep the night before because i am so excited to just be in my treestand. I wake up early, bow hunting is well worth getting up early. You can use a crossbow or a compound bow, i use a compound bow. I shoot a mathews but some people shoot other products like Hoyt, Diamond, Bowtech, PSE, or Bear archery. There is so many smooth shooting bows and for me there is nothing better than shooting a deer with a compound bow. You get so much of an adrenaline rush when a deer is within thirty yards of your treestand. You must sit still and move slow, otherwise they will spot you quick. A doe gets me excited but a big rack buck gets a ton of people excited. Many…
National Animal Disease Information Service states that “lamb deaths from birth to three days old in the majority of UK flocks ranges from 10% to 25% which represents 2 to 6 million dead lambs annually”. Defra consistently reports that 95% of these deaths are due poor husbandry and that only 5% are due to a combination of misadventure and predation. These statistics show that foxes do not hinder the management of wildlife and furthermore fox hunting is not used as method of pest control but rather for pleasure. This contradicts Owen Patterson; the environment secretary’s reason: he had stated "No one is keener than me to see the Hunting Act repealed because I believe in the management of wildlife.”…
Its 5:00am i just got up and got dressed in my hunting gear. i grabbed my gun and got into the truck where my dad was already waiting. He said, “Are you ready for your first hunt”. I said yes tiredly and we took off. when we arrived to the property we were hunting on we parked the truck and and walked to the hunting shed. When we arrived we opened the door and sat our chairs down. the hunting shed was a small box looking thing that our family have been using for around 40 years We waited and waited and then I saw something out of the corner of my eye. It was a doe i turned my head slowly and saw it about 100 yards away and thought is was a done deal. I picked up my gun and as I did I saw the deer running and by the time it stopped…
Not only is hunting an exhilarating experience but so is the feeling of being surrounded by wilderness. During winter times since I was 12 years old, my father would take me out on long drives in the middle of winter to hunting sites just outside of Edmonton. What made the drive not seem so long was the scenic route we would always take. Every once in a while I would see little white rabbits hopping around and leaving miniature footprints all in the snow next to the road. Further down the road we would pass a fairly big hill that had two pine trees at the top of it. I always wondered how long they had been there considering the fact that they were over thirty feet high. Finally we would get to the hunting ground and make are way down to a little patch of brush where we would crouch and wait for the deer to pass by. The feeling of the cold snow crunching under my boots, the frost covered branches of the bush we were nestled under, and all the little footprints that surrounded us gave me a feeling of unity with nature. After hiding in our spots for a long while, usually until my feet and toes were completely frozen it seemed, my father would whisper “Here comes one right now”. A few moments later I’d hear a loud bang and we’d be back on the road with our trophy and bragging rights. We have carried on this tradition every…
