Discuss visual and sound elements in “The Clan of the Cave Bear This movie from 1986 is based in the book with the same name. The story is about a Cro-Magnon girl who loose her mom and tribe and she met some Neanderthal clan who adopt her. It seems to be like an unprepared or a low cost movie. The story sound interesting but while you are watching it you think that is a kind of joke. Neanderthals were prehistoric people but the actors of this movie look like you and me playing to be prehistoric. I think that a Cro-Magnon girl weren’t blond so this was a little confusing but the differences between her and other were notorious. She learned everything easier than the others and she were always trying to do the things that men do like hunting or fishing. It shows many important characteristics from that time like the different roles between man and women, how one man was the leader of the group, their thoughts in spirits that protect them and other things. The paper of the bear surprised me. When the clan was together for ceremonies, the leader tries to look like a bear but the acting wasn’t good and then in other part of the movie the clan appears killing a real bear and this seems to be an expensive part of the movie. They spent a lot of money in some parts and nothing in others. The music of the film tries to help with the prehistoric environment with animals and nature noises. The movie doesn’t have a lot of dialogues because Neanderthals communicates with their hands so the music is useful to complete the scenes. After a while I realized that the director used the same song in almost all the movie. This was a little boring.
