the causes of watching tv
Television is one of the greatest inventions to ever be created, or is it? I cannot imagine life without a TV. Television provides information and entertainment. Nowadays almost all people have their TV at home. Ever since I read Dana Stevens article, I've learned that television does more harm than good to people's lives. TV can be comforting but it can get addicting. It teaches children to sit and watch adventure TV shows than actually doing it. Society thinks that watching TV is okay but in my opinion it’s not it can teach children bad things, it raises violence, it can be addicting, and it can harm people’s health.
Television has its good side. It can be entertaining and educational, it can open up new worlds for kids, giving them a chance to travel the world, learn about different cultures, and gain ideas they may never encounter in their own society. Some TV shows can change children’s behavior for the better like Dora the explorer because she teaches you how to be adventurous and Spanish. But when watching TV as a child, it can be a bad thing to watch too much or even watching anything above PG. Many television programs for children are too explicit even the advertising you see on the TV. Television also exposes children to behaviors and attitudes that may be overwhelming and difficult to understand. Many of the advertisements and TV shows promote violence, drugs and sex. Since children’s minds are so underdeveloped they think its right to do drugs, act out in violence, and have sex at an early age. TV molds a child's personality to influence what to think, how to act, and who to be; and when it has such a large presence in a child's life. When children watch television it takes away from important activities such as reading, homework, playing, exercise, and social development. As I watch some children’s TV shows I still see commercials in which they promote women in skimpy clothing and while children are watching their TV shows, they fixate it in their mind to dress like the woman in the commercial. Children at an early age shouldn't be learning about sex, they should be playing and having fun.
There are many problems in linking media violence with violence in society; surely only a small percent of those who watch violence act out in violence. It affects people's behaviors and attitudes towards themselves and others- ultimately effecting society. But most people aren’t affected by it or there’d be more violence in society than there is. I can’t really say that I can connect the violence in media to the violence in society, but you can obviously see it when you just look around at people and notice their actions. Whenever you see people killing each other on TV like its nothing, I bet you that it’s the opposite in real life. In TV shows the person that killed the other person knows that even when it’s in the movies or shows they know the persons they killed is still alive because they didn’t actually kill them. But in real life you know you killed that person and your conscience is just screaming at you saying “what have you done!” We’ve all heard of copy cat crimes too, where the mentally disturbed person see’s this amazing murder or violence and wants to try it out. It’s absolutely horrible!
Television has become a way of life for most families. It's a useful tool to help you from the boredom of waiting. But television is an addictive drug you can’t get enough of, and being addictive of something is bad, and being addictive means that they cannot function without it. TV is like drugs because they both make you feel good, it’s comforting and makes them get into a pleasurable but imaginary world. It’s an addiction as extreme desire, and the lack of self-control over the activity or habit, and also the breaking of ties with reality. But with drugs there’s symptoms that you can obviously tell and it affect theirs and people around them lives. But watching TV there are symptoms but no one notices them. Watching TV has become the favorite pastime activity to do. You watch it in the morning while eating breakfast, you watch it after work or school, you usually watch it before you go to bed, and I usually watch it if I want to be relaxed. It can be a huge problem to some people’s physical health style. When watching TV you always see commercials on TV promoting junk food, those commercials just promote obesity by tempting people to eat their food that has tons of fat and you rarely ever see commercials promoting to exercise more. Most Americans just sit on the couch watching TV for a long period of time when they could be doing something active like going for a walk or just doing something productive. So when watching TV you should control what your children watch and that their influence isn’t about drugs or sex, but about being adventurous and having fun. Also when watching TV you shouldn’t watch a lot of violence because it affects the way you act around other people. Lastly, Staying active will help with your weight control, Like walking or biking to the store (if it’s close enough) instead of driving, or playing in the park instead of playing video games. By doing these things it will help you out in life.

Television can have positive or negative effects on our children. Children learn by watching and imitating adults. Television provides many influences for children that may not be what you wish for your kids. Television has become a "member" of almost every single family on our planet. And not just an ordinary member, but a very important one, because the time spent next to it exceeds the amount of time spent together with any other family member. You do not have to apply any efforts to talk or listen to complaints while “communicating” with it. You do not have to play with your baby son after a hard working day. You can simply turn the TV on and everything is done: kids are quiet, your wife is not complaining and you feel absolutely happy. It is so simple that it has become an integral part of the culture of every family. It is the only time, when a person can forget about all the family troubles and the failures of the day. The sofa opposite the TV set has become the place of “relaxation and spiritual unity” of the family. With television programs—and even a cable channel—designed and marketed specifically for babies, whether kids under age 3 should be watching becomes an important question. Television, movies and other electronics entertainment are not appropriate for children under the age of, even if they seem mesmerized by it.”(Miller, 2013, p326).…

I agree that television shows influences our behaviors even without our knowledge of it. Although television seems like a great thing to have, it has many drawbacks. Television can have negative impacts on people, especially kids. People learn new skills by observing, then utilizing it, such as when we were kids and learn to walk by seeing our family walking around or learning a new subject in school. Therefore, when watching television it may influence our fundamental social dispositions; no matter if it is good or bad. Almost ninety nice percent of households possess one television. Television is today’s source of news, stories, legends, and characters from previous centuries; the reason why it is so influential. However, only “0.7 percent is used for public service announcements and news”(Sex, violence, profanity...). The other 97.3 % consists of television shows with violence, crime, advertisements and mainstream blandness. Many studies and research has been done to demonstrate that heavy television viewing may lead to serious health consequences. Television is great for entertainment but has grown into a major problem.…

Television is just another part of technology keeping us from viewing the world and living our lives as we should. Instead of coming out of our house and taking on any challenge the world might have for us, we easily give up to our laziness, which quickly makes us grab the bag of chips, the soda, and sit down. Even though I am one of the many people who just loves to have the remote by their side, I strongly believe that television is nothing but detrimental to our society.…
