There were many reasons for the Civil War. As an example, most people feel as if the Civil War was about slavery, although recently we have found that it was actually about federal and state rights. Slavery was a small but effective role in the Civil War. The southern half of the United States were “slave states” as the north were “free states”, there were always an equal amount of slave and free states. The south and north had very different views and constantly got into disagreements with each other.…

There are several things that play into why the Civil War started, although the overall burning issue was slavery. Many people argue that the Civil War started over states rights. But when you look at it the states rights were to abolish or protect slavery. This problem seemed to arise as the north became more industrialized and the south stayed predominately agricultural based. As the north began to look towards a city life people began to work together as one.…

If asked, most people would blame as the cause of the civil war the issue of slavery. This is understandable; many people in the U.S. at the time were against slavery, going to far as to help runaway slaves escape to the free north. But, while slavery at face value was a major factor, international politics and economics played a major role. Several factors, including the election of Lincoln, the raid on Harper 's Ferry, the Dred Scott decision, and, most importantly, the fugitive slave law, contributed to the growing rift between the North and South and, eventually, the Civil War.…

The causes of the Civil War are many, the obvious being slavery, however that is merely on the surface. The underlying causes were far more detrimental to the health of the union, the main cause being money. The economic disputes between the North and the South, which were partially over slavery, were the root to the South seceding. The resentment felt by the South towards the North, because of the growth of cities, ports, and the economy there in general, in addition to the idea of the abolishment of slavery, which would put a serious dent into the economy of the South which was already struggling led them to secede. It has been said that money is the root of all evil, and it certainly is in this case.…
What caused the civil war? The civil war was caused by many things, but some had more of an effect. The civil war was caused by the kansas/nebraska act of 1854, the slavery density of cotton production, and the westward expansion. One reason why the civil war happened was the Kansas/Nebraska act. Popular sovereignty we used in the Kansas/Nebraska act.…
The most significant cause of the American Civil War was the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln. Because of Abraham Lincoln’s views on slavery, the emancipation proclamation, and the formation of different parties, the Civil War began. With Lincoln’s views opposed to slavery, it caused a lot of disagreement with some of the states. Abe believed that blacks should have equal rights, and that they should be treated the same as everyone else. He tried to stop the spreading of slavery and to try to put an end to it all together. He released a document called the Emancipation Proclamation. In it, he gives several million slaves freedom. He aims the document towards the south. It did…
The cause of the civil war was caused by the disagreements of the north and south. The north, and west, wanted international improvements such as roads, railroads, and canals. The south had little desire for those projects. They were many disagreements with the north and the south, so the separated, fought, and started to make their own governments.…
A common assumption to explain the cause of the American Civil War was that the North was no longer willing to tolerate slavery as being part of the fabric of US society. Also, that the political power brokers in Washington were planning to abolish slavery throughout the Union. Therefore for many people slavery is the key issue to explain the causes of the American Civil War. However, it is not as simple as this and slavery, while a major issue, was not the only issue that pushed America into the Great American Tragedy. By April 1861, slavery had become hopelessly entangled and complex with state rights, the power of the federal government over the states and the South’s way of life – all of which made a major contribution to the causes of…
When black soldiers joined the Union Army in 1863, they were paid $10 a month, while white soldiers were at least paid $13- generals were paid more. The African Americans had to pay $3 a month for clothing, so the highest-paid black soldier earned about half as much as the lowest-paid white soldier. Because of this, African Americans Boycotted their pay ,for 18 months. Eventually, congressmen and African American courage made Congress rectify the pay structure to be equal (September 1864). This was in the American Civil War, which was a civil war fought from 1861 to 1865, to determine the fate of the United States as they fought the rebelling Confederate states. Some effects of the Civil war were new Amendments protecting freed African Americans,…
