Career Fair Report
The Career Fair was a great experience for me, especially because I had never been to one before. Overall, I met with about six to seven organizations. I could see myself working for some while not for others. In my opinion, half of the companies I spoke to were viable options for me down the line. Because my major is Computer Information Systems, I was mainly interested with internships and jobs that have to do with either Information Technology (IT) or Marketing and Sales. Hopefully, either one of these paths can lead to a major leadership position within an organization. My most productive encounter was with Brandon from TIAA Cref. He did a great job of explaining what my role within the organization would be as an intern and how that role would expand with a full-time job. He also explained that his company was looking for interns in both of the fields I’m interested in. The only downside was that the closest location is in Charlotte, NC and I definitely need to stay in the Upstate area over the summer. Other than that, my brief encounter with Brandon was a success as I left my resume’ and contact information. Another productive interaction I had was with Shalonda from Synnex. I had never heard of Synnex, however, I was intrigued by a sign that was posted saying they were looking for salespeople. I believe that I can pitch anything to anybody and I am very confident with my personality and myself so I decided to get more information. It turns out that Synnex is an Information Technology specific company that offers its services to other publishing companies and equipment manufacturers. Shalonda explained that an internship was available in Greenville over the summer and invited me to join LinkedIn, which is a more professional social network. Apparently that is how Synnex keeps in touch with it’s prospective employees; I created one for that sole reason and left my resume’ and
