George Lipsitz argues that Americans after the 1950’s wanted to delude themselves that their worries were over, that poverty did not exist, that slavery did not happen, and that work was never done. The creation of Disneyland reinforced this delusion because in actuality “Disneyland was a fantasyland,” an imaginary world where Americans went to escape the realities of the world. Walt Disney wanted to create a park that “would physically block out any view of the outside world, so that visitors could concentrate on the pleasant fantasies within its walls.” He helped in the delusion of the American people during the 1950’s. Jack Zipes, in his essay "Breaking the Disney Spell", directly addresses the issue of what happens when a story is taken from its original oral form and written down. Zipes discusses in depth what Walt Disney has done to fairy tales and the consequences of Disney's actions. Zipes addresses many issues, including those of context, society, and alteration of plot. He accuses Walt Disney of attacking "the literary tradition of the fairy tale" (344). While many scholars disagree with Zipes' accusations, his essay makes very solid and well-presented points that he promptly backs with fact. Regardless of what the scholars say, Zipes was right: Oral tradition is important, and Disney's representations of historical folktales damaged fairy tales as we know them.…

Disney has developed an intricate model of organizing its theme parks. This model requires thousands of employees to abide by standards set by company executives and theme-park trainers. Trainers are well versed in company policy, and for the most part, are able to effectively communicate Disney’s ideals and practices to its newly hired employees. Disney’s theme park employees adopt Disney’s company culture, language (and lingo), and the fear of losing their position if caught disregarding one of the company’s many conventions. Disney had developed a unique culture among its park employees, which affects everything from their appearance to their social life.…
