“The Boy in Striped Pyjamas” is an historical-drama film based on a novel by John Boyne of the same name. This film is set during the Holocaust in World War II and revolves around two eight year old boys, but the contrast being that one is the son of a Nazi commandant of a Nazi Concentration Camp, and the other being a Jewish prisoner in an concentration camp, Bruno(Asa Butterfield) and Shmuel (Jack Scanlon) respectively. This wonderful film is directed by Mark Herman and is produced by David Heyman. The movie starts with Bruno playing with his friends in Berlin and then he is told that his father, Ralf (David Thewlis), has been promoted and that they will have to move to the countryside. Because of this Bruno is both shocked and disappointed because he will have to leave his luxurious house and his friends behind, but his mum, Elsa (Vera Farmiga), explains to him that he can make new friends at their house . Before leaving they held a party because of the promotion. Upon arriving at their new house, Out With, Bruno goes to his room where he sees Maria (Cara Horgan), the family servant, unpacking his stuff; he then asks her if she likes the new house. Also Bruno meets Lieutenant Kotler( Rupert Friend), Bruno thinks he is unfriendly. After looking at his room he starts exploring the house, he says to himself that he doesn’t like this place. To save himself from boredom Bruno makes a tyre swing in his front yard, but unfortunately while palying on the swing he falls and scraps his knee on the ground; Pavel(David Hayman) helps him and reveals he actually is a doctor, not a servant, but he gave up being a doctor. Even though he is confined to the front grounds of the house and the house only, he disobeys his parents and goes outside the boundaries and goes exploring.
