The Boxer
The Boxer is a breed that at first sight looks concerned or almost sad, but it’s not the case. The Boxer is an extremely playful breed of dog and loves attention of its human companions. The Boxer is a naturally high activity dog so it’s necessary to make sure they get proper exercise or behavior problems, such as destructiveness, can occur. The Boxer needs to be kept busy and a large home or at least a large space to play is important. An apartment would be okay for this breed as long as the owner has the time to take it on long walks or even to dog parks where it can frolic and play. Boxers actually date back to the 19th century and are actually a German dog. They descend from two Mastiff dogs which is easy to see in their appearance. They

Pit bulls are known as fighting dogs. They have been used as fighting dogs for decades due to their pure strength and aggressive nature towards other dogs. According to Wikipedia, “these dogs purpose inspired the widespread practice of bull-baiting.” (Wikipedia) The bullbaiting sport involved the bulldog fighting against other animals, such as horses, cows, lions, and sometimes even men. Boxer grew up being a strong shire horse, he was one of the favourites on Animal Farm but he was more brains than brawn. Boxer played an instrumental role in the battle of the cowshed in hope to drive Mr Jones and his men away from the farm. He also helped quite a lot in the mighty construction of the windmill, which was later knocked down. Boxer had many companions at Animal Farm, such as clover the other horse he shared a stabled with. He was very liked around the farm and earned an animal hero first class medal! Unfortunately he couldn’t get past the letter D on the alphabet, even though he did live to be about 11 years old.…

Here’s a little history on the American Pit Bull Terrior, dating back to late seventeen hundreds, the Pit Bull Terriors were used for bull baiting, hunting, and as family companions. When used as baiting dogs they were trained to latch on to the heads of bulls, bears, and other large animals. This was banned in the early eighteen hundreds and ever since then the notorious dog fighting had begun. Now, dog fighting has been banned and is a felony offense in all fifty states. Many dog breeds have been used for hunting and fighting, and are still used as family dogs today. For example, retrievers, pointers, spaniels, bulldogs and many more. These breeds were created…

Despite this common opinion, an experiment was once performed. Fifty Pit Bulls were rescued from a fighting ring. Forty nine of the fifty dogs were rehabilitated. Some went to shelters such as Best Friends and many are well-loved family members today. The testing used to determine these dogs' ability to fit into society was exhaustive, extensive, and carefully carried out. Pit Bulls are different from other dogs and potential owners need to be made aware of the facts before considering rescuing or purchasing one. For example, a dog lover who has had Bichons all her life will be sorely surprised unless she does her homework and understand the bully breeds. Pits need a lot of structure, a very pronounced human alpha, training, exercise and lots of attention. The owner needs consistency, time, energy and quite possibly some…

Pit bulls have many different stories of where they came from. According to Jon Bastian, the pit bull originated in the 1000’s A.D. They started in Greece. Then eventually Britain took the dogs from Greece and started breeding them there in Britain. Finally, they ended up in Rome after they invaded Britain and took the dogs. Then, they started spreading around the world. Also from Jon Bastian, is the story that they came into existence in the 1400’s A.D. as boar hunters and sheep herders. Pit bulls have also been used to catch pigs that may have escaped the pen. Despite those facts, almost every pit bull is not a fighter. They have also been called mastiffs and bullenbeissers in the earlier days.…

Dogs are descended from a tree climbing carnivore that appeared some 40,000,000 years ago; 7,000,000 years ago the Canidae family began to differentiate into wolves, foxes, coyotes, fennecs and jackals. It has long been assumed that dogs were first domesticated in Europe and Asia around 10,000 years ago; they followed nomadic groups eating leftovers and gradually became used as watchdogs and protectors. Recent studies of fossil records, however (see Stalking the Ancient Dog), have generated the hypothesis that domestication occurred much earlier.…

According to Bad Rap, an organization dedicated to rescuing, training, and educating people about Pit Bull’s, the Pit Bull was selectively bred in the early 100’s in the British Isles for a sport known as bull baiting. The name pit bull was derived from putting the dogs in “pits” for “bull” baiting. When bull baiting was banned, the now illegal sport of dog on dog fighting arose. When people crossed the ocean to settle in America, they brought not only their dogs as part of the family, but also the sport of dog fighting (Bad Rap). This lineage of fighting has not plagued the pit bull more than it has in the last couple decades. Within the last twenty years this loyal dog…
