The Bounty Warrior: A Short Story
“Fuck Kian… a man can die fucking with the TV during football season.” Jonas glared at him. He tossed the bones of the Buffalo wing into a bucket near his chair.
“I’ll acquaint you with your Maker,” Eron offered, settling Rosalind into the recliner. Then, he cracked the bones in his neck.
“Yeah, yeah, excite me later. Playtime’s over ladies,” Kian announced, cutting short their diatribe. The Bounty hunters recently returned from a hellhole planet in a nowhere galaxy growled. He knew the lengths it took for a warrior, when on leave, to dial-back the aggressive behavior. A trait needed to survive in the mercurial world of Immortals.

Western and nonwestern heroes come from different regions of the world; therefore, have different cultural backgrounds. More specifically, western heroes come from the Greco-Roman or Judeo-Christian traditions. Nonwestern heroes come from other parts of the world that would not associate with these traditions. While these heroes might seem to have little in common when it comes to origin, “The Hero’s Journey” by Joseph Campbell demonstrates that all heroes have “similar patterns” (Campbell). However by examining the non-western hero, Mulan, in “The Ballad of Mulan” demonstrates how this figure is different than the hero outlined in Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey” in the following ways, Mulan does not have any kind of “supernatural aid”, “tests that lead to the final showdown”, or a “life-changing experience for her or many others” (Campbell).…

“Ouch.” I said as I rose from the sand, rubbing my head. I looked up and saw the helicopter, perfectly landed, which was weird because the last thing I remember was the tail spiraling us out of control and me renting it of course. I looked around and saw nothing but sand, water, and trees, lots and lots of trees. I slowly stood up and brushed the sand off my pants and shirt. I saw that the shoes I had been wearing were no longer on my feet, which was a bummer because I had just gotten them.…

The book The Warrior Ethos, by Steven Pressfield depicts the warrior’s mentality from ancient times to the present through a variety of different aspects and stories. In The Warrior Ethos, Pressfield states that men are not born with the certain qualities that make a good warrior, but instead are inculcated through years of training and indoctrination, stating at an early age. He goes on to show how different societies have been able to instill the same or very similar ideals throughout history while maintaining their own unique characteristics. Things have changed from ancient Sparta where parents would be enthusiastic about their children going to war, and even more elated upon learning that they died valiantly in battle. These days, most parents are a little more reserved when it comes to their children going to war, but the same support and values are still present; the desire for their children to fight with the utmost honor, and if necessary, die valiantly.…
