The first scarring event is when he is examined by Nazis because he is the perfect Aryan race. The Nazi officials make him take off all his clothes while he is with two other kids, and inspect him carefully. Rudy gets uncomfortable from this situation, and he realizes the goal that Nazi Germany is trying to achieve: only one true German race. The second event that takes away Rudy's innocence is when he steals from stores for the first time. He goes with his group and takes food and goods. Throughout the book, he steals much more even getting to the point where he takes everything he can find. The last event that strips Rudy of his innocence is when his father is forced to leave him because he is drafted into the War, Rudy get's very upset from this, and is not sure whether or not he will ever come back. He is worried and sad, and even when Liesel's father come back, his worries still stay.
The change of Max, Rudy, and Liesel show the loss of innocence through adverse events. Liesel loses her innocence from various adverse events like a bombing and deaths. Rudy loses his innocence from scarring events like stealing, having his father leave, and being inspected. Lastly Max loses his innocence when he leaves his family, writes the word shaker, and has visions of boxing Hitler. At the end of the book, all three of these characters have lost the innocence of
