The Birds Book Vs Movie Essay

The Alfred Hitchcock movie, The Birds, was said to be based on the DuMaurier story by the same name. Both versions included birds going wild and attacking humans. They also included some of the same things, for example, in the movie and the book, they boarded up the doors and windows to repel the attack, and someone is found dead at a farm with their eyes pecked out. However, the similarities are not as numerous as the differences. There are many contrasts between the story and the film, particularly in the areas of characters, and setting.

The first obvious difference is the characters. First, you have an older, working man with a small family that is actually the main focus of the story. Then, on the other hand, you have a snobby type woman that gets with a young lawyer, his mom, and his little sister. In the

The book starts on a farm when Nat is observing the bird’s strange actions and differences, while in the movie, it begins in a pet shop in the bird section where Mitch tells Melanie (a lady in which he remembered from court, but she did not remember him) he wants to buy love birds. Also the date in which these events took place are different. The book took place in the 1940’s and the movie took place in the 1960’s.

The final difference that i’ll talk about is the bird attacks. Between the book and the film, there were attacks in the movie that didn’t happen in the book, and the same for the other way around. In the movie, the first attack with multiple birds was at Mitch’s sister’s birthday party, which didn’t exist in the book. While in the movie, the first attack was in Nat’s childrens bedroom. Also, in the book, Nat was attacked for an entire night, and he was by himself. That also didn’t happen in the book. In the movie, Mitch’s ex girlfriend was murdered by the birds, and in the book, Nat’s ex was never
