My mother has been recently diagnosed with a chronic disorder called dysthymia, which is a mild to moderate depression that can last two years or more and that is classified as a mood disorder. A mood disorder is where mood is severely disturbed (Ciccarelli & White, 2014).

My aunt believes that my mother's feelings may be related to chronic stress over money. My aunt and I agreed that the best therapy for my mother would be psychodynamic therapy. Psychodynamic therapy is a newer and more general term for therapies based on psychoanalysis, with an emphasis on transference, shorter treatment times, and a more direct therapeutic approach (Ciccarelli & White, 2014, p469). This therapy will allow my mother to have one-on-one sessions with therapist
