The Art Of Giving
The Art of Giving Good afternoon/evening. As most of you know, my name is Siara, I'm 14 years old and a 9th grader at Notre Dame Academy. When given the topic of the Art of Giving, I thought about art, pictures, paintings on canvasses. Although I'm not going to physically paint you guys a picture on a canvass, I can create a visual picture of giving for you. Imagine I had a seed and planted it. I give it water. By giving it water, attention, love and care from the goodness of my heart, it bloomed into a flower. It might not be on a canvass, but imagine that. The true art of giving is from the heart with out expecting to get something back or something in return. Giving is something that is enjoyed twice. First by the person receiving the gift, and then by the person giving the gift.
Going back to the visual I drew for you all earlier, the seed was nurtured and was so happy that it bloomed into a beautiful flower. I, the giver of the gift, was also happy and enjoyed the gift because when you give, you get that warm, fuzzy feeling inside of you because you see the reaction of the receiver. The act of giving doesn’t have to be limited to an exchange of presents at Christmas time or Birthdays. You can treat every person you come into contact with as someone who you can give a gift to. For example (compliment someone who I know will smile). As you can all see, by me giving the gift of a compliment to (names), it caused a chain reaction of happiness, positive thinking, and also gave them that much more self esteem. So the next time you see someone doubting themselves, give them a compliment.
The next time you see someone down, give them a hug. The next time you see a seed, water it because even if you just water it a little, it will go a long way.

"The Buddha said that if we understood the power of generosity to create happiness, we would never sit down to a meal by ourselves," Cope says. For example, it might cross your mind that a lonely friend would love an invitation to dinner, an elderly aunt might appreciate a phone call, or a co-worker could use a cup of tea. You might normally quash the thought with excuses: You don't have time, you don't want to spend the money, it might be awkward. But the next time you have one of these thoughts, "practice going with it," Cope says. The act of giving creates happiness in both the giver and the receiver, and those good feelings can linger a long time, he…
