The American dream is a tearm used that means you go from absolutly nothing to being an average american. An average american is a person with a steady job and a place to live. In the past, The american dream has focused on main important thing to try and gain succes. Jay Gatsby started out with absolutly nothing just to make his dream come true, but he is so focused on nice eligant things that he doesnt realize that money really cant buy happeines. The author proves to us that a dream can be changed by trying to gain money and power. Gatsby's dream is just an idea that he can be happy and have strength and power. Gatsby is having a hard time making his dream come true because the people around him are trying to do the same thing or are already at that point and are holding him back from making it come true. Jay is just a down to heart guy that has gained a lot of money over time but doesnt realize all the self conseded so called friends he has. Jay throws hundreds of partys for a bunch of randomn people, but has no true close friends. Jay will buy anything expencive and trys to entertain his so called friends to try and get something bigger. Jay charming life may be one of the big reasons as to why he cant achieve his dream. Although he has made millions with his misterious business deals, His heart is broken by the people that are around him. Jay isnt just trying to make himself look good, hes trying to make his dream look good, to have a good life inspired but a lovely girl. Jay's dream comes from the one and only daisy, a girl he had met in the millitary. Daiseys parents dont think Jay and her are a good match because he doesnt have a good background and didnt have a lot of money. Daisey is just everything jay has ever wanted, her voice just sound like money or atleast thats what jay says. Everybody relates her to a siren because she catches everyones attention with his broad loud voice. Jay just loved her voice so much that he ends up doing anything possible to try and get daisy to be his. Jay then realizes money is the one thing that her voice is worth. Gatsby's life is just a rollercoaster of untold stories and a bunch of gold diggers that will do anything just to take advantage of someone. I think that the only way gatsby can achieve his dream is to find a true friend and make daisy his and nobody else's.

The “American Dream”, defined as a perfect job, family life, social status, house, and many other things; is it all true, or is it an impossible lie? Through two unique uses of character and plot, Fitzgerald in “The Great Gatsby and Dunning in Want To Fly, these two authors show two different yews points of the “American Dream”. Even though The Great Gatsby lacks character development, the enriched plot makes up for it. N the book its shows that the pursuit of the “American Dream” is better than the actual dream because there is so much room for error. The enriched plot shows this by the events that happen to Gatsby out of his control. Fitzgerald writes, “’Her voice is full of money,’ he said suddenly. That was it. I’d never understood it before. It was full of money – …“(Fitzgerald 120). This shows that Daisy, the core to Gatsby’s “American Dream”, didn’t actually love him back; she was more attracted to the money he had. And, when Gatsby catches the clock and saves it from falling, it is a symbol for Gatsby trying to go back in time to when he and Daisy were in love, which was the pursuit stage of his “American Dream”. Sadly the great room for error was used up when Daisy married Tom and left Gatsby in the shadows. In Wanting to Fly, Dunning uses a different approach. Doing the opposite of Fitzgerald, Dunning has a richer character development than plot development to get his view across.
