The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Analysis
As mentioned above, to investigate the extent that the translators had been successful in transferring humor by using strategies, a book titled "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" written by famous American writer Mark Twain (1884) was chosen by the researcher.
The target texts that are used by the researcher are two translated versions of "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". The first target text (TT1) was translated by Najaf Daryabandari. He is an Iranian translator of works from English into Persian. In addition to being a translator, he has also a hand in literature, philosophy, and humor. At the beginning of his translation of the novel, he talked about different aspects of the novel such as humoristic aspect which is the subject of

Daryabandari has used the first strategy of scheme change which is ST scheme X → TT scheme X. It means parallelism can be (to some extent) preserved. But Pirnazar has used the third strategy of scheme change which is ST scheme X → TT scheme ø. It means, the scheme (parallelism) is dropped. Also repetition is a device which Twain used to add humor to the text. The verb "a-looking" is repeated two times. Daryabandari translated both of them as "نگاه کردن", but Pirnazar has translated them once as نگاه کردن"" and the next one as تماشا کردن"". Therefore Daryabandari has used the first strategy and Pirnazar has used the third …show more content…
They preserved the scheme of the ST sentences in TT sentences. So the humoristic feature of the ST is transferred to the TT. Also the word "every time" is repeated 3 times in the ST. Daryabandari has translated it as" هر بار". He used the first strategy of scheme change and preserved the repetition. But pirnazar has translated it to two word as هر وقت""and "هر دفعه". He used هر دفعه"" two times, and "هر وقت" just once. It can be said that Pirnazar also preserved the scheme but to some extent. It is the first strategy of scheme change. So both translators have preserved the scheme and could transfer the humoristic feature.

4. Every time a man died, or a woman died, or a child died … (p. 88)
(TT 1): هر وقت مردی می مرد یا زنی می مرد یا بچه ای می مرد. (ص. 164)
(TT 2): هر وقت مرد یا زن یا بچه ای می مرد. (ص. 164)
In this sentence the parallelism which is Twain's humoristic device is preserved in the first sentence. So translator has used the first strategy of scheme change. But Pirnazar has omitted "died" and mentioned it just once. So he used the third strategy of scheme change and could not transfer the humoristic feature.

5. They all smoked and talked, and I eat and talked." (p. 84)
(TT 1): دود می کردند و حرف می زدند و من هم می خوردم و حرف می زدم. (ص. 159)
(TT 2): همه پیپ می کشیدند و اختلاط می کردند و من هم می خوردم و حرف می زدم. (ص.

Mark Twain’s The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn is an American masterpiece. Contrary to The Algerine Captive Mark Twain‘s satire and irony is emphasized through the style and the use of the American “vernacular” dialect for the first time as well as the use of the African-American dialect. Therefore Huckleberry Finn remains the work that elevates this onetime rustic humorist into the ranks of literary genius. It is considered by Satirist Dick Gregory once said that Twain “was so far ahead of his time that he shouldn’t even be talked about on the same day as other people Huckleberry Finn is considered as the first American Novel and aimed at forging an American identity independent from the European one. The Novel, hence, satirize the paradoxical issues of slavery and the hypocrisy of the society as well as the deep intuitions of America.…

In the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, the author uses dialects and, someone say, vulgar language to bring to bring forward many of the issues society faced in the time period following the Civil War. With the use of many different dialects in the novel, Twain is not only able to create vivid, realistic characters but is also able to show his beliefs concerning education, and family upbringing through his characters. The main character, Huckleberry Finn, has a unique dialect that is introduced to us in the opening pages of the book. He uses language that is filled with misplaced words and improper grammar, referred to as Pike County dialect; Huck’s dialect reflects his societal standing and also shows how he was…
