In Canada's 2011 Aboriginal Survey, only 22.8% of Aboriginal Peoples had completed high school and post-secondary education.The book "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" talks about the daily life of an Indian boy who called Junior.His surroundings and himselves changes since he moved from Indian school in Wellpinit to white people school in Reardon. There are some major differences between the schools in Wellpinit and Reardon and impact from differences.Between the two schools, they are distinct in treatments from classmates, teachers's attitude towards Junior and friends. In reservation school, Junior accidentally hit his teacher, Mr.P in face with the book.Mr.P expressed that it was "the worst thing"(Alexie, p28) done by Junior and it was "almost unforgivable"( p28). Unexpectedly,Mr.p chose to forget him and told about his past. In the past, Mr.P described younger him was" young"( p28)and "stupid"( p28). He also admitted he beat many Indian students and he was confessed to Junior. A teacher realised his foul and wanted to changed. In fact, it shocked Junior since he found Mr.P was not that terrible as he thought.Moreover, Mr.P said "You deserve better" (Alexie, p32). In his opinion, Junior could be better and he should be better. He insisted Junior should not give up himself like Mary and Rowdy.He wanted Junior moved to a new school with excellent educate quality. Mr.P brought hope to Junior and lighten a way for him. Junior realised he need to go to a place with hope instead of stuck in the poor hopeless reservation. In all,Mr.P inspired Junior in a positive way.Conversely, Junior's history teacher, Mr. Dodge performed his attitude in another way.He made an mistake in class and Junior proposed the truth in class.However, Mr.Dodge insisted he is right and became extremely angry.     Despite these flaws, he still fought to become more than anyone expected him. He went to a white school because he saw the opportunity that laid there. He needed to be surrounded by people who had hope, who would allow him to reach his potential and present him with opportunity. As Mr. P told Junior, “You have been fighting since the day you were born...You fought off those seizures. You fought off all the drunks and addicts.You kept your hope.     When people think of the 1920’s they think of a time of prosperity. Although due to Canadians not experiencing greater levels of equality the 1920’s did not in fact roar. The injustice felt by the Native people was a direct result of inequality and discrimination by the Canadian government. According to ‘A Day at Indian Residential Schools In Canada’ living in these Residential schools was a complete nightmare. Only 2 hours of education, hard labor, malnutrition and a strapping if you had done something wrong. As well the Canadian government “attempted to ‘protect’ Native peoples from White society, but intended to assimilate them at the same time” (Fielding, Evans 98). The short/long term effects were devastating, families were broken, children were isolated and cultures were divided. This shows how Native peoples were treated unjust, just by sending them to reserves in the first place to be assimilated and protect by White society. Secondly although women were gaining equality and they were rebelling in a way they were still not deemed equal to men. A type of newfound woman was called the ‘Flapper’, they bobbed their hair, shower more skin, smoked and drank as well they even drove cars and kept their jobs they took from men when the war ended. According to Agnes Mcphail, “A woman’s place is anywhere she wants to be” (Bardswich and Fryer 16-17). Agnes was the first female member of the Canadian House of Commons, and she did gain some levels of independence for woman but not all women. Lastly immigrants coming to Canada for a better life only received worse treatment than before including many immigrants from Europe and Asia. Acts such as the Chinese Immigration Act prohibited all Chinese immigrants except diplomats, students, children of Canadians, and an investor class. According to ‘The Immigrant Experience’ fewer than 800 South Asians entered Canada during the 1920s (Fine-Meyer 14-17).…
