My book report was written for our subject in English 12 required by Mrs. Bernadette S. Garcia. My novel is entitled “The Abduction” by John Grisham. It has 217 pages, published by Hodder & Stoughton. It is first published in Great Britain in 2011 by Hodder and Stoughton An Hachette UK Company, copyright © Belfry Holdings, Inc., 2011. I choose to read this novel, because it is the only available mystery type of novel in my sister’s collection of books. This book is not a best seller but, a number one international bestselling author. There are two main characters in the novel. First is, Theodore Boone or also know as Theo, a fourteen years old boy who loved the courtroom themselves, who knows April Finnemore than anyone, a son of two lawyers and April Finnemore, the girl who was abduct, best friend of Theodore Boone, girl who had an unhappy family with a parents who are in twenty four years but separated right after the two months of their marriage. The other characters in the novel are Marcella Boone, mother of Theodore Boone and a lawyer mainly in divorces; Woods Boone, father of Theodore and a lawyer. Ike Boone, the one who helped Theodore in finding April Finnemore, uncle of Theodore. May Finnemore, the mother of April who’s taking pills, and losing her mind; Thomas Finnemore, the father of April, a former drug dealer and a vocalist of a frustrated Plunder band. Jack Lepper, a ten-time loser, distant cousin to April Finnemore, a career thug, petty thief drug dealer, sentenced to life with no parole, prime suspect of kidnapping April Finnemore; and Woody, Justin and Chase Whipples, classmate of Theodore who helped searching April Finnemore. This mystery book happened in the City of Strattenburg. The abduction of April Finnemore took place in the dead of the night, sometime between 9:15 pm, when she last spoke with Theodore Boone, and 3:30 am, when her mother entered her bedroom and realized she was gone. The whole town had no idea where April was, or who took or kidnapped her but, Jack Leeper was the police prime suspect who doesn’t have coordination in the case but still concentrating on him. So Ike Boone, uncle of Theodore thinks that the police should be checking out the girl’s father than concentrating on Jack Leeper and suggested to his nephew to find Plunder, the band name of April’s father. Saturday morning when Mr. and Mrs. Boone were leaving town for twenty-four hours to a popular resort called Briar Springs for the state bar convention and it was a very big opportunity for Theodore to secretly search April. He insisted he be allowed to stay in their house by himself but his parents resisted and highly disagreed of what he’s doing and he will be doing in searching April because the door was open to serious discussion for him who’s only fourteen years old where he needed supervision and protection. As fear ripples through the small hometown and the police hit dead ends, Theodore use his legal knowledge and investigate skills to chase down the truth and save his best friend April. Without expecting Theo had finally found out April at the Kappa Theta house in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with his father and Plunder band. No one expects that April was with her father, that there was no kidnapped or abduction happened to her and that she was only left terrified alone at their house on Monday night and Tuesday night that when her father showed up, she left with him. And with Mrs. Boone’s recommendation for April’s custody, April would remain at home with her parents on a nightly basis that if either parent plans to be away from home during the night, the parent must notify her advance and further recommended that the parents should begin marriage counseling immediately and that May Finnemore must be updated on her progress in her new therapist. My final thoughts on “The Abduction” are that it is really an interesting, suspense and mystery book. I was really not expecting in the twist of the story. The book made me so interested in the story because of the title, a mystery title itself. First chapter could really tickle your mind already. As I was reading the story, my anticipation is growing higher and higher and indeed my expectation was filled until the end, especially in the falling action part of the story, which was a little bit funny twist for me. The good point of the story is all about friendship and the importance of family. Theodore really did his best to find his best friend April even if he’s still young and his parents are highly disagree with it. On the other side about the importance of the family, parent’s presence is really important for every child growth. The attitude and personality of a child depends how the parent act. By that, I will highly recommend others to read this book because they could really get many lessons that will inspire them on some points and feel like a lawyer or detective in solving mystery or a crime just by reading this story.

This is because the Congress adopted an act called Federal Kidnapping. If the kidnapper crosses a different state, the crime falls under federal jurisdiction. Meanwhile, a murder may be categorized as state crime. The state court will hear the case to determine if the defendant has violated the state law.…

The Kidnapping laws and abduction laws of people differ from state to state in the country, but generally they are the same everywhere. They apply to anyone who “without lawful authority, forcibly seizes and confines another, with intent to cause such other person to be secretly confined or imprisoned against his will” (Abduction). Kidnapping is also the unlawful taking of the victim and nefarious motive like obtaining a ransom. An excellent case of kidnapping would be the Jaycee Duggard Case. This case revolves around Phillip Garrido who kidnapped Jaycee Duggard at the age of 11 in 1991. By that time Garrido was already a convicted rapist when he had forcibly taken Duggard just outside her home. Garrido then raped Jaycee repeatedly…

How reliable do you think autobiographies are? This is a very controversial question that can be argued on both sides. But for this essay, we are going to leave it up to your opinion but I’m going to give you mine. In the autobiography ‘Kidnapped’ written by Olaudah Equiano, is one of the first tirmes we hear about the journey of a slave from a firsthand point of view. The thing is, can we trust an official document like the Constitution to be true facts just as much as Equiano’s autobiography of the declaration of sentiments to be the most reliable way to report history.…

She is supposed to be a victim of rape but as you read the novel you can see she is a victim of poverty and ignorance also neglect by her father Bob Ewell. The reason she could have never admitted her liking for Tom Robinson is because it would have never been accepted in her society. She’s lonely and gets no love or affection from anyone, she has no friends, and no one to talk to. A girl her age should be out socializing. However poverty and ignorance has trapped her at home.
