There were many causes that led to this pivotal moment in history. The main causes of this war were: the 1850 Compromise, the Fugitive Slave Act, Dred Scott’s Decision, and John Brown’s Raid. The 1850 Compromise was the earliest cause of the Civil War. Henry Clay proposed the 1850 Compromise to solve slavery, as the nation is growing larger.
