Thanksgiving and Christmas
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are similar in some ways on both days we give thanks to God, we prepare different dishes and we spend invaluable time with our family. Thanksgiving Day is a traditional holiday. At Thanksgiving we give thanks to God for all blessings. For example, in my home we is a custom to celebrate Thanksgiving Day since I was a child because, my parents always celebrated this day. We give thanks to God for all the blessings that we receive all year. Christmas Day is a traditional holiday. We celebrate the birth of Christ. By celebrating the birth of Christ we are are giving us a chance to get us back to God in our home and this is the why we giving thanks. On Thanksgiving and Christmas we eat special meals. The traditional dishes that are prepared for Thanksgiving are stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, apple salad, pumpkin pie, pecan pie and cheesecake. In contrast. For Christmas, we prepare many other dishes to celebrate. It is more traditional to prepare red tamales, green tamales with cheese and sweet tamales with raisins but also we prepare stuffed turkey, ham, Buñuelos, apple salad, cheesecake, and also champurrado. We also drink eggnog. At Christmas, we usually celebrate with more Mexican dishes, while at Thanksgiving, we have more American customs as far as the meal. Thanksgiving Day is the day that we spend time with the family because this day we are used to meet the whole family together for dinner and enjoy the night, and after dinner we go shopping to get the black Friday. While at Christmas, it’s customary to spend time with the family starting on 24th of December, from early to start preparing the different dishes and decorating the house, because it’s Christmas Eve.
