The British appeared on the American flank around 2 p.m. that day. With the Americans outflanked/out maneuvered and surprised, they attempted to reposition their troops to meet the unexpected attacks from their right. The British were slow to attack which bought time for the Americans to position some of their men on high ground near the Birmingham Meeting House, a few miles north of Chadds Ford. The British attacked causing Washington’s army in Chadds Ford to bear most of the brunt and eventually retreat. The American were also forced to leave behind most of their cannons because their artillery horses were killed (supply). Understanding the Battle of Waterloo is important to know, because it shows that bad decision making and bad intelligence reporting can lead to one's defeat. Since 1804, Napoleon was trying to create his own empire over Europe. He was defeated in 1805 by the British, but he continued to move forward across Europe before being forced to surrender. He returned to Paris in March 1815, prompting Britain, Prussia, Russia and Austria to declare war. Napoleon invaded Belgium in June, attempting to take over Brussels. He sent his men to engage Wellington, also sending a battalion against General Blucher's Prussian army. Blucher decided to retreat as Wellington's army wasn't holding the front line against Napoleon's army. A decisive battle is now set…

The Artillery of the Potomac Army at Gettysburg, achieved victory through the “King of Battle” and integration of the Union maneuver commanders (Steve, 2014). Combat experience demonstrated seasoned leadership. The superiority of the Union artillery over their confederate counterparts was not only the number of guns employed, but also, it was the manner of how the Union commanders employed the artillery under their command (Steve, 2014). Proper integration of assets can determine the battlefield in moments. Hence, the concept of today’s utilization of artillery supporting the maneuver elements, has not drastically changed. The Raid on Gananoque 1812 was led by Captain Benjamin Forsyth. Forsyth and seventy of his men landed on the shores of the St. Lawrence River. Forsyth knew that his attack on Gananoque would be a success, considering that Colonel Joel Stone’s army may have looked like soldiers but in fact many were farmers and labourers with a couple training practices under their belts. Forsyth’s men met Stone’s sixty deployed into line, primed and loaded. With a rifleman dead and a few wounded, the next move fell on Forsyth. Lusting for glory and having riflemen with months of training under his comman, Forsyth ordered his men to charge. The militia immediately broke and fled. Forsyth understood his attack on Gananoque would arouse the nearby Kingston garrison, and he could not linger and within thirty minutes his little flotilla was on its way back to Sackets Harbor. As soon as intelligence of his attack was conveyed to Kingston a detachment of troops and militia were dispatched to intercept the invaders, but they had already retired. While Forsyth’s raid was the first offensive operation on Canadian soil along the St. Lawrence, it was not his last. The aggressive rifle officer would continue annoying the British supply line…
