East Asia became one of the most advanced and prosperous regions in the post- classical era due to the resurgence of the imperial style rule. After the collapse of the Han Dynasty, East Asia was plagued with 350 years of turmoil and destruction. This ended however when the Sui Dynasty came into power. This dynasty was able to bring back the centralized imperial rule due to a few successful military campaigns. The Sui dynasty lasted for less than thirty years, but it made way for the Tang and Sond dynasties to emerge and become stable and prosperous.…

In Japan, only 3.5 percent of the population is considered obese. In contrast, the U.S has a climbing obesity rate that is currently thirty percent. A main reason for the contrast in obesity rates is the “culture of health” that Japan has long promoted. In part, Japan has been the healthiest nation thanks to its meals of vegetables, fish, and small portions. However, although Japan is able to avoid the problem of obesity, it is experiencing a rapid increase in eating disorders. Japanese government data shows that since 1984, all age categories of women from the teenage years to age 59 have become thinner. In fact, according to the Japanese government for the majority of women in this age group, Body Mass Index (BMI) falls below 18.5, which is considered underweight. Unlike the rest of the world, Japan’s population is getting skinnier, not fatter. The government’s changes in BMI and weight laws, as well as cultural expectations to be thin, have led Japanese women in all different age groups to develop eating disorders.…

Dr. Ryan Fortenberry presented about one of the greatest mysteries in spectroscopy, which involved these diffuse interstellar bands spectra of space. No one has been able to conclusively determine these specific bands, but after thought, Fortenberry speculated that these could potentially be absorption bands of anions due to various other observations from previous reports about these findings. Fortenberry ran calculations using the coupled-cluster theory to get the most accurate results, and it has been determined that several small anions, such as CH2CN-, had similar excitation energies compared to that experimental benchmark. However, several other ground state excitation energies, and that there was a correlation with silicon because there were some fairly accurate CCSD calculations that came out of molecules that contained silicon in there. Using these calculations, one can then use the spectra that generated with these calculations, and compare it with the interstellar bands to determine if there really are anions in space.…

When many people think of China, one of the first things that pops in their head is the One Child Policy. China's One Child Policy was created in 1979 by Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping to temporarily limit communist China's population growth. It has since then been in place for more than 32 years. China’s One Child Policy is basically China’s way of trying to limit population growth. It states that woman may not have more than one child, or families in general are not allowed to have more than one child if they live in highly populated areas, and it mostly applies to Han Chinese people. This doesn’t apply to woman or families in rural areas of the country, minorities living in the country, or couples where each spouse has no brothers or sisters; they may have two children so there isn’t too much population change. It is also possible to for couples to apply for a second child if the first was a girl or had birth defects, but only if they live in more rural areas. It has been very successful in the first 20 years of the law being around; it has been estimated to have reduced population growth in the country of 1.3 billion by as much as 300 million. Although this may be a great way to help with China’s out of control population, it’s also causing some problems and it’s considered somewhat unethical to many people.…
