Textiles Theme Analysis

I think that this design is unique and original as I think that the feathers give the dress an unusual edge. The inspiration for this design originated from the style of Audrey Hepburn (1950’s) and the catwalk designer, Erdem Moralioglu. I may do this dress as I can see that it would look very effective, I think that the diamantes on the corset would give the design a glamorous feel which would contrast to the delicate feathers. I like the colours on the dress as it is very bright which makes the whole dress look extravagant. However I don’t really don’t think it would be the best dress to make as it doesn’t include many techniques, which don’t make the dress very advanced or challenging. I like this design as I think that it takes something traditional (i.e. newspaper) and turns it into something modern. I think that the dress would look good and effective when completed due to the bold structure and shape that it has. I took the inspiration for this dress from the designer Manish Arora; I got the idea of how to make the shape of my dress from him. This dress would be a good way to show a recycling aspect due to me having to reuse newspaper to make the print. The techniques that would be used when making the dress would be: print making, heat transfer and embroidery. I would use embroidery to make some words and letter over the dress bolder; I think that doing this dress would be difficult however I think that it would look very impressive at the end. I think that this design is different due to all the layers of tassel-like fabric, I think that this makes the dress look more textured and interesting. I took inspiration for this dress from Erdem Moralioglu, as he did a similar pink dress however I adapted my design by adding netting sleeves which gave the dress more of a rock and roll touch.
