E-books or Textbooks? Technology keeps advancing every day, and E-books are taking over removing the textbooks from schools. The article “The future of Education: Textbooks vs. eBooks”, mentions all the good things how eBooks can help many, for example how eBooks are cheaper for college students and how they are more convenient in the way college students don’t have to carry the heavy traditional textbooks. Also, we know that as a college student we have a tight budget and purchasing textbooks every semester can be expensive and half of the time we can’t afford it. It says how some teachers favor this new method because they believe students can perform better by reading with technology since this generation is more used to it. This e-Books are getting very popular that some universities want to apply it to their students; one of them is Northwest Missouri State University. I agree with the decision that MSU is making about e-Books and their students because students would read more and learn more, it’s cheaper for the campus and students, and thirdly students agree they have a positive experience with e-Books. To begin with, is an easier way for college students to learn faster in a more advance way. Today generation are more used to technology than never before. Who doesn’t have a smartphone on their hands now days? A ten year old carries a more brand new phone than their parents. E-books are not the exception for college student, as students we look for a more affordable way to learn and have enough money to survive college life. Mention in the article “The future of education”, “many educational institutions have already tested the usability of technology in classrooms, with hopes of offering students a more modern and hands on method for obtaining information”. (Pg. 1 paragraph 5) Hubbard a teacher in MSU says” I’m” I’m convinced that students will read more and

Marc Prensk’s argument is that all textbooks should be banned and we should be using electronic textbooks. This way students and teachers will be able to access them from their iPad, iPhone, Tablet, or Nook. Prensky thinks that this would give the opportunity for more resources, and motivate the student to always read and refer to the textbook instead of just sticking it on the shelf where it would never be touched. “But I suggest that it 's time to go much further: to actually ban non-electronic books on campus.” (Prensky 1) He believed in freedom away from the page, and thinks that a collection of books and ideas in your pocket would be accessed more than books on a shelf. “Digital texts are also accessible anywhere, at any time, while…

Some people think that it is a bad idea to replace tablets with textbooks and some other people think it is a good idea. There can be many opinions over this topic, so let’s explain why we shouldn’t have them replace our textbooks. The first reason that we shouldn’t have them is because if you lose them it’s it will have a critical impact on school. One of the reasons it could have an impact is because we could lose everything you had on it. Not only that but they also cost a lot of money. If we keep the normal textbooks it will save money over time because they last longer than normal devices, and not only that they are a lot cheaper. The textbook might break but they are not that expensive to replace.Another factor with the tablet is that…

Reading "" by Jon Marcus talks about why are text books and college cost so expensive. How I feel about text books and college being expensive is not fair because after college people are in debt and you only used textbooks at least one semester. I don't agree that we should have software for textbooks because people like me like to write and feel the looseleaf paper textbooks. I understand the paper textbooks or hardback textbooks better then online it gives you more information. However, the online textbooks would be good to look up words we do not know or give us more in depth of the paragraph we are reading. Being in debt is not good especially when some people only go for 2-3 years and not finish but it is their fault for not finishing…

On the other hand, Richard Miller mentions several times in his book from pages 420 to 446 that technology has taken over reading and writing and that the quality of appreciating different points of view from different cultures will be gone if nothing is done to change that fact. It is necessary to mention, from a student point of view, that despite the fact that Miller is completely right in that sense, it does not mean that reading an e-book is not the same as reading a physical book. Miller seems to forget that entire compendiums of literary knowledge can be preserved from a USB with minimal memory in Giga Bytes all the way to a tablet’s memory chip or even on the Internet. The second part of this proposal is to defend reading and writing technologies that are eco-friendly and do not require cutting down vast forests to create one book that will be useful to help a student in an English class to understand the point of view of another culture or even a different time.…

These days, computers are used for learning purposes. Right from elementary classrooms, kids are being trained not only in using computers but also using them in their day to day academic work. Education aims for the all-round development of individuals. Computer based instructional programs can help students develop subject matter and reinforce classroom skills. Are schools replacing the classroom instructional process such as reading, writing, and homework assignments with various multimedia and hypermedia programs? David Gelernter in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom” thinks that improper or uncontrolled use of computers may lead to decline of literacy and lack of basic skills. Computers have the ability and potential to accomplish great things, and Gelernter agrees that “Computers should be in the schools.” (278). With the right software, computers have the power to attain a rewarding learning experience. Multimedia technologies could make science easier and more enjoyable or teach topics like art and music. They could be inspirational in learning when the student can actually see geographical maps and multimedia presentations. However, most of today 's software available does not seem to help in the cognitive development of students. Despite the fact that “An estimated $2 billion has been spent on more than 2 million computers for America’s classrooms, we constantly hear from Washington that schools are in trouble” (278). It is true that the role of computers in higher education, professional education, or research is inevitable. But many of the children 's software programs forget the basics of imparting…
