"Terrorism" has been defined as an organised system of intimidation or the practice of using violence to obtain political demands. But in the world of today this word has acquired deeper and wider meanings. Now terrorists indulge in suicide bombing, mass murders, burglaries, arson, hijacking, kidnapping, for ransom, and torture of the worst order. All this is happening not in some particular country but almost all the countries of the world are facing the most horrible threat of violence.Terrorism are operating with impunity with no regard to justice or injustice. One can recall the English Philosopher,
Thomas Hobbes, who in 1651 described human life in the following
Words:
"No arts;no letters;no society;and which is the worst of all, continual fesr and danger of violent death, and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish and short"
Isn't this the social and political milieu we are living in today?in
Pakistan, terrorism has assumed a frightening form.Every day the newspapers carry horrible stories of organished violence, murders, bomb blasts, rapes corruption, torture and brutality.People are now divided aloong the lines of ethnicity, sect, tribe, clan and biradari-based politics.Pessimism, mistrust, animosity and cynicism are rampant.Vast areas of the country are beyond the pale of the law.Tish deplorable and alarming situation demands serious and sincere consideration and some instant solution. But before trying to find out some viable solution to this problem we must analyse the factors that are causing this evil to spread so rapidly and widely.
In Pakistan there are three main causes of terrorism:Political, religious and economic.More than 80% of our population is illiterate. They cannot distinguis between good and bad.So they can easily fall a prey to temptation or intimidation. Our selfish and power-hungry politicians take advantage of their simplicity and stupidity. They put sush slogans in their mouth as help them achieve only their vested interests negating the larger interests of the people or the country.Mushroom growth of the political parties have worsened the sitation.People have been divided into small political, religious or regional groups. They are made to fight with one another on the ground of just petty issues.Similar is the game that some so-called religious leaders are playing with the religious emotions of the innocent but ignorant people.

Copious amounts of varying opinions surround subjects involving racism. In George Curry’s essay, “Calling Nooses What They Are – Terrorism”, he clearly displays his point of view in regards to this subject. Throughout his essay, the distinct point Mr. Curry exemplifies is the use of nooses is a racist and terrorist act. By employing ethos, pathos, logos, style of diction, and style of syntax, the main theme is prominently displayed.…

Naomi Nye, a female writer, is an American citizen, half American, half Palestinian. The writer wrote an essay “To Any Would-Be Terrorists” describing in a sad and frustrated way that the terrorists should find another way to live and make peace with the world by stopping the terrorism acts since the world needs not to suffer more pain. The writer’s purpose was to show the Americans that not all Arab-Americans agree to the acts that the Arabs do and that they feel with them especially after the events of 9/11. However, she may have successfully appealed to them, but the appeals presented made her appear to be against Arabs; moreover, it may have lead to distorting our image.…

Chapter three in aproches to peace helps us better understand terrorism. Many of us have a skewed perception on what we believe terrorism is. This chapter is trying to get us out of the mind set of thinking that only terrious are Muslims from the middle east. The chapter focus on why people from the middle east do the unthink able. How we may see them as terrioris. But other see them as there freedom fighters. That we cant count the United State out of the equation of being terrious, because the United States government is very much so part of the problem. We may try to justify are wrong doing but it still doesn't help. United has inflicted just as much pain to people around the world. Chapter three focuses on terrorism between the United States…

Different people identify terrorism in diverse ways. In the book “What Terrorists Want”, Louise Richardson gives a brief explanation of terrorism in two parts. The first part she explains what terrorism really is, where they come from, what causes terrorism, the three R’s (Revenge, Renown, Reaction), and why terrorists kill themselves. In the second part, Richardson talks about what changed and what did not change on September 11, 1997. She also talks about why the war on terror can never be won, and what has to be done.…

Acts of terrorism are present in modern day life and have been going on for centuries. John Brown’s warlike tactics at Pottawatomie Creek and again in Harper’s Ferry were acts of terrorism. He had an evil mind and chose to bring harm to the innocent instead of addressing his beliefs in a civil way. Brown purposely brought violence upon many people of the state with his goal to abolish slavery.…

    9/11 Terrorist Essay

The unconscionable tragedy that besieged our nation September 11 has shocked Americans. Indeed, images of the carnage that traveled around the world proved how vulnerable the world is to barbaric terrorism. But as that shock turned into anger, a dangerous mix of emotions began to settle across America. Talk-Radio callers queued on the phone to vent their anger after the attacks. "We need to nuke them all!" said one caller. "Throw all foreigners out of the country," declared another. Television news broadcasts brought in so-called experts to discuss the identity of the perpetrators. "All fingers point to the Arabs," alleged one analyst. "We need to keep our eyes on those Muslims," concluded another. These hateful comments were the backdrop to the fear that swept the Arab and Muslim communities here in the United States. Mosques were fire bombed, Muslim women were harassed and some who "looked like they were from that part of the world" were attacked. Regardless of who is ultimately found to be responsible for these terrorist attacks, no ethnic or religious community should be collectively blamed. Blaming ethnicity and religion as the root of this catastrophe only drags countless more innocents into a cycle of hate. Grouping Muslims or Arabs with terrorists is unjust and prejudiced. Even as the unscrupulous criminals behind this tragedy cloak themselves under a veil of religion, we in the civilized world should distinguish between religious beliefs and murderous terrorists. Indeed, all Muslims are utterly and completely disgusted at any acts of violence carried out in the name of their religion. In fact, such violence contradicts the views, teachings and ideals of Islam and Muslims. Islam expressively forbids such acts of violence. Arabs and Muslims are as afraid of this terrorism as are all Americans. The results of terrorism do not distinguish between…

On September 11th, 2001, the world changed in the matter of seconds. America was brought to their knees, with tears. Four planes were taken over by Islamic terrorists on suicide missions targeting the United States. One plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, another hit the Pentagon right outside of Washington DC. While the other two planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. This was a day that would go down in American history as one of the worst terrorist attacks to happen on American soil. This attack will be the one that will always be remembered and never forgotten.…

The attack on September 11, 2001 was an event which shows the violent and damaging effects that race thinking can cause. 9/11 marks not only the terrorist attacks of a select few Muslims, but sparked a fundamental change in the social and political world of America. It represents the perfect example of how governments – in particular, the Bush administration – use race thinking to commit acts of violence while furthering their own ulterior motives. These motives were created far before 9/11 happened, but the attacks served as a trigger point which allowed the government to call for the ‘defence’ of America, and launch their famous campaign, War on Terror.…

Before taking this course I had a solid mindset and definition of what I thought was terrorism. I, like many other people in the United States had a stereotypical assumption that all foreigners, especially Muslims and Arabians hated our country and wanted to destroy America and anything and anybody affiliated with it. Upon entering this course, I tried to go in with an un-biased objective, but as we all know that is not always easy, especially when a subject like terrorism is so controversial and sensitive because of traumatic events like September 11, 2001. In my reflection paper of the course I will discuss some topics and issues that I found most interesting and challenging to my critical thinking. I will also discuss my opinions that have changed throughout the semester about terrorism and future plans of the information and knowledge that I gained during the course.…
