When times became tough, The Pullman Palace Car Company cut wages in half. Workers voted to strike, after members of a grievance committee met with Pullman with a list of demands. Debs advised caution, but a nationwide boycott of Pullman cars was supported by the ARU delegates.…

“From door to door in forty-five minutes” was a common term heard around Treblinka, one of the most terrifying places on earth from July 1942 to November 1943. Forty-five minutes was the expected time to process and kill the prisoners coming off the trains from all parts of Poland. Treblinka, and many other camps, served as the final destination for many people, most notably the Jewish people. Stories of survival from Treblinka are rare, as there are only seventy known survivors, all but one, Samuel Willenberg, have since passed on. His story along with Kalman Taigman, are two of the most famous from Treblinka, but both have very different stories from one another. The residing Commandants of Treblinka took no mercy from their prisoners as…

So the ARU remained as an example of the superior type of union organization which united workers by industry rather than by interests of craft or skill. Though Debs was no longer a union leader this did not mean that his continued interest in workers’ rights would be expressed only in political activities. Wherever and whenever workers were in confrontation with owners, Debs was likely to show up to offer support and encouragement. As you can see Debs rightfully deserved his position in the U.S Department Hall of Fame he was important in Labor Relation’s history. An uncompromising, heartfelt fighter for economic and social justice, he was brilliant, powerful and eminently…

After being arrested a few days later after the fire in the rail yard, Eugene Debs released a statement about the protest. The Chicago Times issue on July 15, 1894, the headlines stated that Debs still think they could still win and said that battle has yet begun. The article went over his what he planned to do from then on, “I propose to work harder than ever before ,,, We must unite as strong as iron, but let us peaceable in this contest. Bloodshed is unwarranted and will not win. It is not by blood that we want to win” (Pullman Strike pdf, 75). Eugene Debs proposed that from then on he will work with all remaining people in the Union for a better cause for them in a peaceful action and not by violent intentions. With this final proposition he marked this day as an American Hero for labor workers and…
