As a resolution analyst at UnitedHealthcare (UHC), over ninety percent of my decisions are based on evidence provided by providers’ and members’ health policy contract and UHC reimbursement policies. The health policy contract provides payment regulations on how to correctly make a decision of either a claim is to be denied, paid or if additional steps are required. In a case where a member is asserting that an out-of-network provider should be reimbursed in-network based on their research involves investigating beyond the member’s contract and UHC reimbursement policies to justify an overturn. If the member provides proofs such as a copy of the participating provider listing on UHC's website or the provider proper Tax ID to support their…

A mission and vision statement defines a facility; it provides a statement of the companies goals, values and its purpose. All employees need to be aware of this statement in-order to allow the company to succeed and accomplish their vision. Baystate Noble is a small community hospital and its mission and vision statement defines the hospital very well. Their statement states the following, “It is our mission to improve the health of our patients through innovative care in a personalized environment that exceeds the expectation of our community” (“Mission and Vision”, n.d., p. 1). Baystate Nobel is by far not perfect, however I can say confidently, that the mission and vision of this hospital is being worked on daily.…

In 1994 Tennessee began the TennCare program as a way to control Medicaid associated health care costs that were rising at a rapid rate (Baggett, Harkey, & Alexander, 1999). While many other states were going through similar issues at the time, Tennessee did something vastly different. TennCare not only aimed at managing healthcare costs, it also expanded eligibility and coverage to the uninsured, and the uninsurable (Baggett, Harkey, & Alexander, 1999). This was a controversial measure because it didn't make sense to expand the eligibility and coverage to more people when the state's cost of the program was increasing. In order to help offset the costs of the TennCare expansion the state government contracted with managed care organization…
