Abstract- This paper describes the design and implementation of a fully automated Telescope that can be controlled over the internet. Telescope over the Internet is novel in the aspect that it will be the first telescope constructed in Sri Lanka which can be accessed over the internet and download real time images of any celestial object. It covers a novel and a cost effective technique, which provides a magnificent resolution and accuracy. Prevailing online telescopes tend to be very expensive and are restricted to only a small segment of population for access. So the prime intension of this system is to develop a cost effective technique to construct an online telescope. Users will be able to enter the celestial coordinates of any celestial object to the web interface and download realtime CCD images over the internet from the system. The earth synchronous motor system fixed to the base of the telescope allows it to focus on the celestial object for a long period of time despite earth’s rotation. The web interface developed for the SBIG CCD ST-7 camera allows the user to access the camera over the internet, select an exposure time and download good resolution images of the objects. Features such as web based CCD image acquisition, earth synchronous drive,
RA/Dec to HA/Dec celestial coordinate’s conversion modules add value for the product. This system provides great business opportunities to produce online telescopes in a comprehensively inexpensive cost with further enhancements
Keywords: Online Telescope, Celestial coordinate conversion, web CCD control

Facing East provides snapshots into American Indian lives, actions, and thoughts. The first chapter, titled "Imaging a Distant World," relies heavily on an estimation drawing on actual known facts about initial encounters but filling in the blanks with imagined possible scenarios. The view east begins at Cahokia, the metropolis located across the Mississippi River from present-day St. Louis that flourished around 1100 A.D, and Richter employs its story to remind "us that the great changes occurring in Native American life during the sixteenth century and before, were not primarily set in motion by Europeans. Richter speculates about Indian perceptions of initial contacts with Europeans such as Hernando De Soto and Jacques Cartier. Chapter…

The PBS documentary outlines our progressive journey in the field of astronomy and the resulted revolutionary discoveries from the continually improving technologies. The history of telescopes first began in the sixteen hundreds, when Hale’s invention of refracting telescopes drastically changed people’s view of the Universe at the time, for the view from the telescope revealed the Universe as dynamic, as opposed to static. Later on, Galileo Galilei improved on these telescopes and constructed several with increasing magnifying powers. With his own telescope, Galileo not only viewed our moon, but also observed those of Jupiter, triggering the development of modern science.…

In 1990, after years of work, Tim Bemers-Lee along with Robert Calliau introduced the World Wide Web composed of just 2,304 web pages. Just as Gates had predicted, the World Wide Web was becoming more “cheap and ubiquitous,” than ever before and was utilized in the homes of many Americans (Bud 220). The World Wide Web was significant because work could now be done from home at any time; day or night. However, innovation was not limited to personal use from the home, groundbreaking new technology such as the Hubble Space Telescope expanded how we view the whole universe (Hubble 1). Americans longed to discover the wide expanse of space and The Hubble assised just that. The Hubble Space Telescope is unlike any other telescope as it is positioned a staggering 353 miles above earth’s surface. Although The Hubble has returned over one hundred thousand photos, the telescopes significance actually lies in what we can learn from the captured images (Hubble 3). Astronomers have viewed new galaxies in formation, exploding stars called supernovas, and have even estimated the…

Some of these critics tell us that contrary to popular belief, "far from making us smarter, online technologies are actually making us dumber." (Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein. 2006, 168) On the other hand, there are people who challenge this school of thought; they bring up the point that students are able to find a target audience and tweak their writing to appeal to their directed audience because of the use of social media. This whole time the author's advice or opinion on the use of technology had not been mentioned. The information and view points were told to explain the idea from a completely objective stand point. That is however, until the very last paragraphs of this chapter. Graff and Birkenstein give their own view in reference to their combined 70 years of teaching, they do not agree with either side of the argument.…
