Historical Background
DZBB was established on March 1, 1950 by Robert "Uncle Bob" Stewart, in a small office space in Calvo Building, Escolta, Manila with mostly second-hand equipment and an old, surplus radio transmitter. The station was then broadcasting on the frequency of 580 kilocycles. Despite of lack of new broadcasting facilities, the station has scored many milestones with its news, senate and congress coverage, breaking news, exclusives, and blow-by-blow accounts of major national events. It also pioneered on trendsetting shows such asCamay Theater of the Air, Lovingly Yours, Helen, Kahapon Lamang, Tawag ng Tanghalan,Newscoop, Kwentong Kutsero and others. Some of these shows eventually went to television. DZBB was also the first to air several live coverage extended not just to news and public affairs, but also to entertainment and educational programs. In 1957, DZBB moved to the new and current home at EDSA, Quezon City.
Due to the success of DZBB, Stewart ventured to television on October 29, 1961 as DZBB-TV Channel 7 with the branding RBS-7 (now known as GMA-7 Manila). The station seized and closed in September 1972 due to Martial Law. Two years later, Channel 7, DZBB and other provincial radio and television stations were eventually sold to the triumvirate of Gilberto Duavit, Sr., Menardo Jimenez and Felipe Gozon. At the same time, DZBB returned to the airwaves under the branding Dobol

Officially dubbed ‘B96’ toward the end of 1982, WBBM-FM (owned and operated by CBS Radio) is currently one of the longest running Top 40/CHR stations in the United States. Originally beginning as nothing more than the FM simulcast of WBBM-AM, the station played a very conservative mix of music appealing to a semi broad demographic. As time went on, WBBM (both AM and FM) began playing towards a younger audience until 1969 when WBBM-FM broke away from the WBBM-AM simulcast and adopted a progressive rock format, which later transitioned to more of Adult Top 40. When Dick Bartley became WBBM-FM’s program director in the late 70’s, the station transitioned from Adult Top 40 to Rhythmic Top 40. When radio consultant Mike Joseph (recognized as the creator of the ‘Hot Hitz’ format) began to oversee WBBM-FM’s operation, the station was renamed and ‘96 Now’ became Chicago’s first ‘Hot Hitz’ station playing nothing but top of the chart pop hits. After Josephs departure…

At times, the Board of directors even considered discontinuing the radio business. However, the proposal was always thwarted by a few senior members of the management popularly known as the Phalke group, being headed by the one of the promoters, Natesh Phalke. This group did not subscribe to the new-age philosophy of television and internet but believed that radio, as a form of communication, still had the widest possible reach in the country and therefore, the business had to be nurtured and revived.…

The ancient Filipinos believed that all objects had spirits or were inhabited by such. Even inanimate objects like rocks, mountains, lakes, etc., and natural phenomena like wind, thunder and fire were said to be inhabited by particular spirits, or to be governed by certain gods. The belief in a Supreme God seems to be the most natural and simplest beliefs of early Filipinos. The name of this god varied depending on what region. Among some of the names are: Bathala, Diwata, etc. Practically, all the early Filipinos had a belief in the afterlife. Generally, it was believed that the good went to heaven, while the evil went to hell. Sometimes, the good soul, rather than ascending to heaven, would take residence in a local tree or similar spot to watch over their loved ones, or take care of unfinished business.…

In 1929, KZRC, Radio Cebu, opened in Cebu.
