Tejas Volleyball Club Business Plan
Many families in the North Texas Region live day by day not knowing when their next meal will be and are unable to provide a Christmas that every family deserves. This year the club I play for, Tejas Volleyball Club, is making it possible for all families to experience the joys of a holiday so important. Tejas notices the stress on families that struggle with money this time of year. We realize Christmas should be carefree holiday that all families need to enjoy together with a Christmas dinner and gifts; this is exactly what we will provide this year to thirty six families in need. Every team at Tejas has a family they will “adopt” for Christmas. Each team has twelve to fifteen players, this will result in an abundance of gifts and food donated …show more content…
To introduce Tejasmas to all the teams there will be a guest speaker, Jenna, who coordinates Tejasmas each year. She will give important information to every player about their “angel families” each team will adopt and how donations will work. In Jenna’s presentation she will begin with showing a video of her engaging in everyday life with a family in poverty to show how different and heartbreaking their lives are compared to ours. Next, she will meet with every team individually and tell them what family they will be “adopting” and information about them such as what they like, their style of clothing, their wish lists, and some personality characteristics. While doing so she will tell every positional group what they will be in charge of donating. Then she will explain that every team mom will deliver Christmas and dinner late Christmas Eve such as Santa would. To kick off the donations Jenna will place a sign and a donation box on the outside wall in front of the Tejas building. There will be a huge sign above the box that says “Donations to help provide a family Christmas” with flyers explaining Tejasmas. The Tejas facility is also combined with several hockey arenas due to the Brahmas hockey team playing there, a sports store, and an Italian restaurant; therefore, people will be constantly walking past this sign giving donation money. These donations will be split equally among every family to give them some extra cash this year. The …show more content…
As of December 13th the 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s, and 15s team have all of their presents donated. The 16s, 17s, and 18s age groups are still working on getting their presents in. The young age groups having their presents in sooner was expected and happens every year due to their guardians taking on all of the responsibilities. As the age groups get older the players seem to be busier with tournaments, school, and recruiting and it is difficult for them to find time to go shopping. Due to this there were a few modifications made. Jenna recently met with the 16s, 17s, and 18s teams after one of their practices and explained that if a player is too busy to shop for their gifts they have the option to give Jenna fifty dollars and she will buy their presents for them. This helped the older teams tremendously, almost every player had their gifts in by the next week thanks to Jenna. The 18s team even wrote encouraging and motivating letters to their “adopted” children from Santa to help them stay positive through hard times in their life. I am so impressed with the amount of gifts donated and the extra effort put in by the 18s team. There were at least thirty presents for each family. They even began to run out of space in the gift’s storage room. I am so happy to be a part of Tejasmas and to be able to make someone else’s Christmas

When food-bank drives are conducted, people generously donate items such as canned beans and boxed cereal but don’t often don’t think about baby supplies, leaving the banks often unable to help families with food, diapers, and other things for their babies. To meet this need, the UCBCC conducts a drive the second Saturday of each May and September to gather baby supplies. Typically, these drives are held in large supermarkets that have given permission to UCBCC to set up a table near the front of the store and as customers come in, invite them to purchase a baby item or two while they are shopping to donate to the food bank or to contribute money. As the customers leave, they drop off the purchased items at the donation table.…

Sunday is the main events so the runners for the half and full marathon came in to retrieve their information packets, and shirts which they will wear during each run. Before I was assigned to work with a few other ladies behind the Shirt Distribution stand, the staff explained to all the volunteers about the water pouches that will be available to use during the events, and briefly demonstrated how the new water pouches worked, and how we should hold the water for the runners as the passed by. At the Shirt Distribution stand, we handed out long sleep shirts for each race, and collected the Shirt tabs which were located on each runner’s bibs. Once we collected the tabs, we each placed them in a clear plastic tub, which the head of staff would use to count if they needed to know how many shirts were distributed. We each took on equal responsibilities for the shirt distribution tasks, and when we were not busy; we conversed and got to know one another a little better. Pizza and burgers were provided for lunch, along with some water or soda to drink. Starbucks was available for everyone to drink freely, and cupcakes were being donated for two dollars towards charity. One of the supporters was a ballet company touring for the holidays, so they chose to put on a free short performance for the visitors at the Freedom Marathon Exposition, while giving the children a free lesson on how to properly stretch the muscles in their body. I thought it was great way to market the business and to get local patrons interested and eager to see more. I found it interesting to see that all ages were running or walking the marathons and it open my eyes up to how many people are actively involved in the community. Everyone was really humble and patient while waiting to receive their shirts which allowed the…

All can relate to that one special time of the year, Christmas, when whole families unite and spend hours endlessly sharing stories, making memories, and of course, opening presents! What happens though, when all of the sentimental value of Christmas is replaced solely with physical value, the gifts? What would Christmas be like then? Richard Rodriguez takes the readers through one of his annual Christmases and brings to light, through his thoughts, the disconnect that exists between himself, his siblings, and his parents. Rodriguez’ chronological presentation of events with flashbacks, short, abrupt syntax, light-hearted attention to detail and concerned tone contribute to suggest his worried attitude toward his family.…

My family and I participate in sponsoring a family for Christmas each year. We go to the Social Apostolate or Interfaith Hospitality and buy gifts for a family in need. During this process, the family writes letters telling us about their lives, needs, and wants. Honestly, doing this is my favorite part about Christmas. Jesus wants us to help those in need and I believe by doing this we are doing what He wants.…

Tuesday, December the eighth, I had my first experience volunteering. As an active member of Webster County High School’s Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) club, I decided that I would leave archery practice a few minutes early and head towards the Providence Food Bank. Every second Tuesday of each month, HOSA meets at the food bank at five-thirty to help prepare senior citizen boxes and assist people in shopping at the food bank. Intrigued by the opportunity to gain a few bonus points and support the club that I am passionate about, I figured why not give it a…
